Does the OOS waiver look at both GPA and test scores or just GPA?
Both. Minimum of 4.0 FSU Calculated GPA and a 31 ACT ( I donât remember SAT because my son didnât take the SAT). They also added this year âAll Aâs and Bâsâ
Both. You can read about it on their scholarships page.
Had to be 31, I have twins with one 30 and one 31 and only the 31 got it.
Yes - itâs so interesting how much the test score does impact merit - my son this year is not getting merit from schools his older brother did get and the only difference was the 32 on the ACTâŠversus a 29 (30 SS). I think my current son has slightly better grades even and with test optional he didnât submit some places (and still didnât get merit) or did like with FSU and seems to have hurt meritâŠthough thankful he is getting accepted so there is thatâŠ
We have been finding the same thing. My D has a 4.3GPA / 28 ACT and it seems like she just missed the magic number for the REALLY good merit most places she applied. She only got to test once, I am kind of kicking myself for settling now (even though finding a test here in IL was nearly impossible, she attempted and was cancelled on 3x before she actually got in somewhere).
We have experienced the flip side of the âtestingâ problem. My son started early and had his final ACT scores before the end of 2020âexcept several of the schools he applied decided to go test optional or they changed their merit standards based on the limitations which seemed to favor those without scores. I think the Class of 2021 has definitely faced unchartered waters in college admissions.
You are absolutely correct. They only report Fall admits when they talk about their averages. Thatâs why a kid (like mine) that had a great GPA and all the other non-statistical boxes checked got a Spring admit. Her SAT wasnât great. She only had one chance to take it and the circumstances were less than ideal that day. Schools do this all the time. Happened to my older daughter 3 years ago with Boston University. She got admitted to Spring because they didnât want her 1370 SAT dragging down their average. Letâs just say Spring is not an option when all your friends will be heading off to college in the Fall. So we close the book on this one and move on. It just wasnât meant to be.
@btm1108 I was wondering the same thing. Based on their website, it looks like all awards are given at the time of decision so Iâm guessing there is nothing coming.
@purpblue If I were you, I would absolutely appeal. It is always a âNoâ if you donât try.
Can someone explain what a Summer admit is? Someone said is for students to catch up? My daughter has 4.44 gpa and 8 APâs and full tuition offers from two top schools. Im confused why she received summer term admissions. Could this be a mistake?
@bandd Iâd like to know myself. And Iâm not quite sure about the calculation. I attempted to do it myself but other people seem a lot more certain of the GPAâs they calculated. Our HS is on a 100 scale so I attempted to convert the scores. I am in the same boat as you with my older child having a composite of 32 and this time around my daughters highest composite was 29 (31 Super Score). If her April test had not been canceled, I know her score would have been in the 30âs. She bombed science on the February test and with 5 tests canceled, she just gave up.
@UGAmom91 I feel the same way. My daughter submitted her ACT score because it was within the middle 50 but at the low end. It seems her friends who went TO are doing better with merit and acceptances.
What was her SAT score?
1310 baseline from Sophomore year and we stated how she missed several Junior/Senior year sittings due to covid. Is this what caused it? She only has 1-2 Bâs all Honors or AP, strong rigor, strong ECâs, strong essays.
My sonâs high school also does GPA on a 100 point scale and to top it off they actually use 93 and above as an A so a 92 is technically a B but it doesnât show up anywhere on the transcript so not sure how colleges calculate thenâŠI have tried to calculate every which way and think he was at a 4.2 weighted GPA but could be higher depending on how they look at those numbers. He took the ACT/SAT pre-pandemic and got his 29 and then after 4 cancellations in between, took again in October and was so over itâŠand got the 29âŠwith the 30 SS I guess it is what it is. He has gotten into a ton of good schools so not going to fret about it as thankfully we can handle the tuition to allow him to go where he wantsâŠhe did get merit and honors at other schools but not where he wants of course.
That should have been good enough for fall. What was her unweighted GPA and/or her FSU recalculated GPA?
I dont know how FSU calculates it but her UW is 3.93. Her only 2 Bâs ever were in AP classes.
@stacysmom21 I would contact admissions in this case. Canât hurt to ask to move to fall. From others I know that got in, summer doesnât seem right for your daughter. She wonât get merit because of her score, but she should have gotten fall.
Will FSU send a packet in the mail with acceptance letter etc??
