Transfer taking 15 hours in fall. Got a few more decisions to come in first.
Just got my email saying I did not advance to Presidential finalist, good luck to everyone else!
My D received same email about Presidential. Good luck to everyone else.
I am confused about the housing contract deposit. I paid it but then it says this a binding contract that means you must pay fall and spring- but yet in instructions it said you could cancel and get up to $50 back if you decide not to go to FSU. If my daughter gets into her #1 she will not be going to FSU. Can someone clarify?
It says you have to inform housing, not just withdraw your decision. So I assume once you choose your final school, if it’s not FSU, you email them a letter and they send you back $175. Or call them and ask them what to do. May 1st is the time frame though to get it back.
I am guessing it also means that if you do go there, you pay for both fall and spring even if you were to transfer out. ???
Yes it says it’s binding for both Fall and Spring.
I started to wonder - the kids that go Summer - do they move in first and stay continuously? If so, they might have the advantage of getting the best dorms.
I watched a video - student rating dorms - said even the worst is ok.
I saw the same one. In another video (I forget which) they said you usually won’t get the same dorm for summer and fall; will have to move.
Hi. My understanding after speaking with admissions is that the Summer students go home for a few weeks and then come back to a different dorm for Fall.
We are doing the same and staying at Hyatt House too.
There was a college admissions counselor on a Florida college FB group that posted that FSU did something different this year. Divided applications into top 25 percent, middle 50 percent, bottom 25 percent, just going by GPA and course rigor. Top 25 percent were accepted, bottom 25 percent denied, and middle 50 percent they took a deep look at ECs and essay. I haven’t seen it confirmed by FSU yet. Just wanted to chime in that my boys were both under 1300 SAT but were above the middle 50 percent range for recalculated GPA. They got fall offers. Not sure how it would have played out any other year though. This is a strange year for sure.
I agree with others that have recommended calling admissions. I remember seeing a post last year from a student who had top notch stats and didn’t get in. She called and it turned out she hadn’t filled out the SSAR correctly. Once it was fixed, she was offered admission. Hoping you got the accidental summer cancellation thing sorted out. Good luck!
Honestly, Wisconsin is a great school, not even mention the full tuition scholarship. My son got in there too, but without any merit. Your daughter should be very proud of her achievement. There is no reason to torture herself with this summer admission at FSU.
Can you share where you saw that data on FSU emphasizing GPA over test scores? I’d like to read it. As we wait on UF’s decision I am hopeful they took the same approach as my twins are A students with lots of AP and DE classes that did well on their ACTs but not fabulous.
Update, it looks like she may have a chance. After the 2 canned responses on Twitter and via email, I asked them again to please open up her file and tell me specifically what was the criteria she failed to meet. This was the reply plus they were able to “uncancel” her application:
Thank you for your response. There are a number of different factors that play a role in our selective holistic review process. We do see that (D21) is a fantastic student, which is why she received an offer to join us at Florida State University starting in the summer term. The Summer offer is not treated a remediation period for students. The reality is that we received over 62,000 admissions applications and there are a limited number of spaces available in our Fall class.
However, if (D21) is interested she can submit a term change request to be reconsidered for our Fall term. If interested, please have her email us to reinstate her offer to Florida State University and then consider the following information before confirming a term change request for the Summer to Fall semester:
- You previously applied for the Fall term. At that time, you did not meet our Fall admissions standards, but you were offered admission for the Summer.
- You must accept our non-binding Summer Offer in order to submit a term change request.
- Our non-binding Summer Offer expires on March 10th .
With these stipulations in mind, if she still want us to consider her for admission to the Fall term, she must update her SSAR with her mid-year grades as soon as possible. Additionally, we recommend that she submit updated test scores. We will accept test scores through the February ACT and March SAT. Please see instructions on [how to update and resubmit your SSAR]
After she has accepted the offer and submits her additional materials, please have her send us another email to confirm her request to have her application reconsidered for the Fall semester. After we receive all of this information, we will then begin the process to reconsider her application for the Fall term.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Have a great day!
@NJ08809 thank you and she and I agree that is a phenomenal school and the best ranked option at the moment. They went to visit 2 weeks ago when it was 0F and loves everything about Wisco except the cold. Which is why U of AZ in addition to the $35K is in the mix. Honestly she loves both but had high hopes for FSU and was excited to hear back.
@Muttmom5 I could be that the SSAR was not done or done properly.
It was posted in a group called Central Florida College Bound.
Anyone else have trouble activating the FSUid? Of course I waited until after IT support was closed. When I go to manage FSUId it takes me to a screen that states I need to know my FSUID to proceed - which I know but there is no place to enter it just a number to contact support … can anyone help?
Did you figure this out? I’m having the same issue
