Just wanted to share my daughter applied in Feb & was just accepted. She was accepted for the 6/21 summer session & then would be accepted into the fall. We would have to commit to this summer session in order to have FSU send the acceptance package. Never heard of this…have alot to figure out. She’s committed to USF already & honestly didn’t think would get accepted at FSU.
Got my decision and it was a no. Frustrating because my stats are well within the middle 50% accepted for fall let alone summer
My son was offered summer admittance. Extremely odd… he is 2/510, never had a B has been accepted at some top colleges. Very odd… we were actually looking forward to relocating to Florida. I guess this just wasn’t meant to be. Sorry you didn’t get in… where will you go?
I did get in pathways so i may be doing that not sure. Congratulations to you though! The process has been very odd this year
Oh good happy to hear you do have that option. Best wishes to you, it will all work out.
In Florida everyone needs a summer session to graduate. So starting in the summer no big deal and you will have the lay of the land before fall. Also, you may be able to do summer online from home with Covid if that interests you. From your post i take it you are out of state FSU offers a first year abroad and then you would get instate tuition for rest of degree. From your stats it just sounds like a numbers game no spots left. Counselors tell us almost impossible to get accepted to FSU and UF if you apply after priority deadline. Good luck
Thank you for taking the time to explain. I didn’t realize summer session is a state requirement. Yes, we are OOS. I will definitely look into it further now that I have this information.
Yes, summer start is a common thing. I know many that actually chose a summer term start on their application over fall. Some like getting a head start on classes and transitioning into campus life when less people are on campus.
Son applied on 2/18, and got admission yesterday. Major or college was not mentioned in the letter.
Congrats to your son.
Thank you. It’s decision time. Wish the best to everyone.
The summer session acceptance isn’t a ‘lesser’ acceptance. If you look over the FSU or UF threads, many students start in the summer. My kids graduated from a Florida high school and their friends chose to start in the summer.
Now it is hot as hell, but it is pretty hot for an August start too.
I think FSU and UF - if you get in, it’s an achievement - especially OOS. FSU may not have a national pedigree reputation…just a state school…but clearly it’s #s are not just that of any state school…nor are UFs.
So if you got in any way - fantastic. If you get rejected as more than half do, I still say there’s honor in at least trying…you don’t know until you try. My daughter was rejected at two schools and WL at two - and I’m proud of her for having the interest and then pursuing.
Good luck to all.
Thank you, I didn’t have a clear meaning on it. I didn’t realize you have to do a summer session for graduation in Florida as well.
Hey Rsmith–so your term change request to Fall was denied?
To any who that was admitted into pathway program— im curious about what option people are picking. Is it possible to do a semester at home at a local CC if I live in Mass, or does it have to be a Florida CC. Also— did anyone who was admitted to pathway get an acceptance package with a financial package? Im deciding between UMASS and FSU through pathway program. Help!
Does anyone know if the summer session (in the future) can be online/remote? I live in il and don’t want to be away from my family even more than fall/spring term
in the past, the summer sessions had to be on campus, but there are other ways to qualify like with an internship, some of the study abroad programs, etc.
A summer session can be as short as 4 weeks (the first session is just May) so you don’t need to be away from your family for the entire summer.
With the new covid rules, they might let you take classes online. It would be up to the school to decide. When Benacquisto NMF asked if they could take the online classes from OOS, the answer was no. The requirement is for Benacquisto students to live near their campus. Those students are receiving room and board, so they can’t use the excuse that it is too expensive.
Thanks! I didn’t know that I could have an internship instead possibly. Wish that was on the website.
I don’t think it is a sure thing, but I have read of some students getting them. The law is (and yes, it is a law) that you have to take 9 hours in the summer. Some do 9 right away, some do 3 each May term, others have figured out other ways to do the work. With so many online courses now, I think it is possible to do all 9 online. Internships are often for credit and can include all kinds of opportunities. YOU will be paying for the internship to get the credit.
Taking the 9 credits isn’t a big deal, but if you absolutely MUST go home for the summer and don’t want to chance it, don’t go to FSU.
