Interesting! I just checked and there are 12 cleared names on my Daughter’s app
I see 11 reviews of my son’s application. Five of them are by students currently in the Presidential Scholars program. The remaining six are a mix of professors and staff. As I said earlier, interesting process.
It says “cleared so and so’s rankings”. My guess is that each professor rates all the essays on some kind of point system and the highest scores get accepted. Totally guessing though.
@Anisqoyo - interesting! I went back and googled the rest and there were a bunch of current Presidential Scholars on S20’s review after all. I guess the random ones I chose earlier must have happened to be all faculty/staff. You are right - definitely an interesting process!
I just looked again and all of my daughters updates were done on Feb 19 between 1:30 and 4pm.
Does anyone know how many presidential scholars are chosen each year? And how many are interviewed vs how many actually receive it?
I think they bring in 70 kids to the interview weekend and then choose 25?
On my portal, I had 11 different reviewers for my application that took place on February 19th. Where is everyone seeing stage 2? My portal does not say stage 2. ;(
I found where it says stage 2. I missed it before lol
Just an update to add to the speculation - I looked up all 12 names that my daughter has and they are all professors and one graduate advisor. No presidential scholars. I do not expect my daughter to be considered for presidential scholars either fwiw.
Shout out to the staff at FSU’s honors department. My daughter contacted them to ask a question, and, the person that responded did a great job of helping her feel valued, even if she doesn’t make it into honors. All of the staff at FSU has been great. It and our state flagship are two schools that have really stood out to her when it comes to the admissions process. The staff has really helped make FSU a main contender for her. For anyone who is curious, she was told reviewers do not see ACT/SAT scores.
No, I looked, and there are indeed several upper classmen on the list as well.
My guess is that there may be different names on different applicant lists, just as there are different numbers of names.
My S just logged into the housing portal and Landis shows as an option. Does this mean anything? (I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it does.)
Where do you see that in the housing portal?
@dreamer000 I have not seen it, but I assume it’s wherever they make their housing selection. I’m wondering if students who did not apply for honors can also see Landis as a dorm option.
According to a parent on the Parents of 2024 FSU students Facebook page all students can see Landis as a housing option and it does not mean anything. Apparently if there is space then a non-honors student could room with an honors student if both make the request.
For those of you whose kids are already automatically admitted to honors, what did you do as far as making the housing selection(s)?
@amsunshine
My auto admit daughter put Landis first, then Gilchrest (I guess they have some spill over Honors kids there), then several others but I don’t remember which ones.
@janiemiranda Thank you! So is Gilchrist the only other dorm for spill-over honors students that you know of?
(my D got an unfortunately high lottery number for housing, so I want to make sure we choose the right dorms…)
