My daughter was selected and is happy. However, for anyone who did not get chosen in this round, I just want to offer that one of our ambassadors told us that he wasn’t selected initially as a new freshman but applied after the first semester of freshman year and got in then!
My D got a “Congratulations” email and is in Honors, but no Presidential invite. She was already auto-admitted to honors, and we weren’t expecting a Presidential invite given it is so super selective, so no surprises here. We are still very enthused about FSU and D and her dad will be visiting in April. Congratulations to anyone who got Honors and/or Presidential!
Son was accepted into honors but no Presidential Scholarship opportunity. He doesn’t care about that (says he wasn’t “woke” enough) but his parents certainly do. Eager to see what financial incentives UF might offer.
honors but no presidential
Congrats to all the Honors Program admittees!
My D got into honors but no Presidential invite (wasn’t expecting that). Now she needs to decide what to do. She has some great choices.
D accepted, no presidential but was definitely not expecting that and we were thrilled with the honors acceptance.
Wow, @mountainmomof3 that is very strange indeed. What a roller coaster—I’m so sorry.
That does make me a little nervous as my S saw the portal update saying he is in, but he left the house before he saw an email. They need to match, apparently. Yikes!
my kid didn’t apply for honors; couldn’t bring himself to do those essays. But good luck to all! rooting for you!
I was admitted! i didn’t get an invite for presidential but i’m not surprised
Has anyone heard of anybody getting a presidential invite?
D was accepted to Honors (but was auto-admit through Benacquisto) but not invited for Presidential. Was hoping for Presidential. Disappointed.
@AlwaysLearn there was an invitation to the Facebook group in the acceptance. My D joined the group and hopefully she can hook up with someone who would be a potential good roommate. Her number is 600-something in the lottery though so I agree with you. They should allow the student with better placement to apply for the room
@haleigh1 I know of one person that got a Presidential invite.
FSU honors vs UF Regular - anyone in the same boat. Cant go wrong with either, but what are considering to be the deciding factor. Torn
The deciding factor for my twins is that they want to major in biomedical engineering so UF has the better program.
MB2020, we carefully considered exactly that question and went with FSU! There’s just been too much out there about how large UF is, students can’t fit in classes and have to watch videos in the dorm instead, etc. I realize that may be rumors, but we were also disappointed in “Gator for a Day.” My daughter received a specific invitation for anyone with a 3.9 unweighted GPA or higher. Coming from OOS, there was one tour guide who was half-interested in having us stroll around with her, and she seemed to have no support from the University behind her. Back at the admissions office, we were met with more of the same lack of energy. One admission officer asked us the obligatory, “do you have any questions?” but then turned back to her work dismissively. It felt off-putting, to be honest, especially when this wasn’t just a typical day-- we were invited for a so-called “event” and made the trip on the date offered. It was a major letdown. I actually judge these kinds of first impressions with schools/businesses because I think it’s a sign of decline when schools are not bothering with things like their marketing or first impressions. I realize now that UF has released decisions, perhaps the University puts together something more impressive for admitted students, but frankly, it’s really too late. A lot of people I know who are now accepted have taken these many months to become invested in other schools. UF doesn’t invest in enthusiastically attempting to attract prospective students. Add to this the late announcements even for EA applications. Not a good combination. Compare this to FSU where everyone was energized, enthusiastically celebrating the new football coach, the rise in rankings, the new buildings on campus. I’ll take “revitalized” over “complacent” any day of the week. Beyond this, FSU gave my daughter 100% out-of-state tuition waiver. I believe people should go where they’re wanted. These details made the decision easy for my daughter (and us). We just trust FSU more at this point to deliver on the better college experience.
My D20 just got email congratulating her for being accepted in FSU Honors program and it says it is important for her to log back in to her Honors Application account and with instructions of what to do next. Anyone know if she does this is she committed to going to FSU Honors? She has some other acceptances and is still waiting on a couple more so not ready to make a final decision but wants to keep her options open as she was impressed with FSU and the Honors program…help
There is a $30 fee to be paid when you accept. It does state that this does not mean you are accepting admission to FSU. My daughter is in the same boat. She will pay the $30 to secure the spot, but is still am waiting in many out of state decisions.
@jloheac I couldn’t agree more. We had basically identical experiences to yours at UF and FSU.
