FSU oncampus housing

Hi I am a current sophomore living offcampus contemplating living oncampus next year, my parents think it will be a lot cheaper. If I apply in January/February will I have a bad chance at getting apartment style living? aka my first choice? any advice is appreciated. No one I know who is an upperclassmen lives on campus...

apply ASAP so you get a decent housing number. i’d apply to the upperclass dorms.

Don’t quote me on this, because I am not 100% (especially since the Housing website is as confusing as it can be on this), but it is my understanding that by having lived off campus for a year or more since living on campus (or never having lived on campus at all), you are designated as a new housing applicant.

As such, you are lumped together with the freshman applicants, and are limited to their dorms. Meaning, as the freshman housing numbers begin to skyrocket (as they are right now), your chances of getting a good placement on campus are dwindling.

Now, of course, like I said, I am not 100% on this. It’s been my understanding that this is how it works, but I have heard conflicting reports on this so I am not 100%. Honestly, I’d just call FSU housing and ask them what the procedure is.

The housing website is very confusing on this topic so I emailed housing and found out that because i have never lived on campus i am lumped with the freshmen and at this point (i emailed them the same day i first made the post) i would have no chance of getting the upperclassmen dorms because the upperclassmen who are returners get the spaces first and then freshmen housing decisions are made. I could later apply for reassignment but nothing is guaranteed. Sooo Im not living on campus lol. I have no idea where i should live next year and need to figure it out soon because where I currently is only guaranteeing my current rate till february. I may have my car spring 2013 and where I am charges for parking and so with parking itll be $800 a month and not including utilities and I am in a 2/2. I need to be in walking distance of campus.

Yeah, that’s about what I figured from the Housing website.

If you need to be within walking distance of campus, have you thought of looking into any of the apartments on Call Street right across from the western side of campus?

i have, but almost all the reviews are bad online for them, but of course if you have a bad experience you are more likely to write a review. I also don’t really know many people that i could room with and not many places have 1/1s.
