Me and some of my friends will be applying to these two schools next year and are interested in political science. Which of these 2 schools has a better program, and are the rankings even that far apart to matter?

The historic rankings I found for Political Science are:

FSU: 21
UF: 48

I'll try to clarify with more detail...what these mean.

More detail....

2005 USNews Rankings - Graduate program (Ph.D.)

FSU: 37

UF: 52

I suggest looking at location, not the rankings, which really apply to grad school anyway. Since FSU is in a state capital and would have all sorts of interesting internship and campaign opportunities as well as adjuncts with current experience in one of the country's largest state's governments, I vote for studying poli si at FSU.

NSMom is correct - ratings are simplified and often don't tell the whole story.

The advantages of being in Tallahassee for a program like Political Science are substantial and significant.
