FSU-Teach

Any current/former students know much about the program? I've been offered the chance to take the courses to get degrees in biology and education, but am not sure what to do yet...I am in the honors program and an LLC (which only requires courses for my freshman year, but still...). Am I in over my head?

While I didn’t go all the way through the FSU teach program (due to already being an upperclassman when the program was started at FSU), I did complete the “Step 1” and “Step 2” classes. It was an OUTSTANDING experience and I certainly recommend it. The master teachers are passionate and dedicated beyond words.

While I didn’t experience the whole curriculum, I can share a little about my experience. You get paired up with a mentor teacher in a local public school and after observing the classroom, you and a partner will develop and teach several lessons over the course of the semester. The best part is the program covers the tuition for these first two courses so you can see if it’s for you.

The class certainly has a decent time commitment, but I was able to balance them with my upper division coursework in Meteorology as well as other involvement on campus. Both Cindy Dyar and MaLynn Kelso - two of the master teachers that teach the classes - are absolutely incredible. They will assist you in any way possible and I’m sure would be able to answer your questions or direct them to someone else if they don’t have the answer.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to post them or send me a PM if they are better suited for off the boards.

Hope this helps!

Wow! Thanks a lot  I will definitely consider trying the free courses!

Be warned…the 5E lesson plans will make you want to hang yourself. But the master teachers and the fact that you get to go into the classroom make it all worth it.
