i will be going down to fsu this week for a tour…is there anything that anyone would reccommend looking into while i’m there??

I will be happy to meet with you if I am available while you are on campus. The tours are conducted by students in the department so you will have the opportunity to gain the student perspective; I will be able to answer questions about curriculum and the audition process. E-mail or private message me if you would like to stop in.

Michele,

I am taking my D to visit FSU on March 23rd. We are scheduled for a 9 am walking tour and an 11 am Admission Session. Could you suggest any classes that we should try to sit in on as well? Or is there a faculty member that we should try to schedule? We would love to meet up with you as well if you have the time!

Song4U,
I will be available on March 23rd, and there is a workshop class that you might enjoy watching at 12:20. I will have a current BFA student available to give a School of Theatre tour, but not until about 3:30 in the afternoon.
Please PM or e-mail me and I will help you work out the details!

Hi All4FSU,

Do I understand correctly that FSU is only taking 3 for MT this year? Or is it 3 so far? It could have been a rumor that I heard, so I was wondering if you had any inside information?

Melsmom
At our recent visit to FSU I think we were told that 174 auditioned and 11 were offered spots in the class. And that they like to keep the program smaller than that, so there is no waitlist. If some of the 11 choose not to come, the class will just be smaller. Ideally they like no more than 8 per class. At least that's what I have in my notes!

I thought that was 11 for the BM AND the BFA combined?! So I guess the information about only offering 3 MTs this year could be true...Whoa, that's competitive!

We extended 11 offers for the freshman class; BFA & BM combined.

It is confusing for prospective students, but the Music Theatre program is a cooperative program between the School of Theatre and the College of Music and the Major requirements are the same. The students are auditioned and admitted as a class without attention to whether the student applied through Music or Theatre. They are auditioned together and evaluated using the same criteria - the only real difference for admissions is who sends the letter :-)

This year, the offers were extended to 8 applicants that made their audition appointments through the School of Theatre, and 3 that applied through the College of Music - that is also reflective of the total number of applicants to each department. (SOT has a higher percentage of the applicants)

I could, of course, go into more detail but I'll save it for future questions:-)

Just curious, of those 11, how many are girls?

BiGismama,
There are 6 women and 5 men, although we do not have "quotas." Every year is different. We don't look for a certain number of men or a certain number of women; a certain type or vocal range. We are really looking for individuals that we feel would be a good fit for the program here. Our program is small enough that we have the ability to help develop each individual performer's potential based on his/her strengths and weaknesses.

I was just wondering how many actually accepted the offer (of the 11 offers made) therefore how many are there in this year's freshman MT class?

For this year, 1 BFA Male, 1 BM Male, and 3 BFA females accepted.

Indeed, we have 5 freshmen this year. We opted not to have a waiting list for Fall 2006 because the previous two classes are larger than usual. Also, occasionally a student will have difficulty being academically accepted to the University and we don't always have a decision from University admissions when we make our selections. An optimal class for us is 8 students, but yield is very hard to predict.
