Can everyone just post their date of FTCAP? Maybe we'll see each other there. To start off, my FTCAP is June 23rd.

We’re going on June 1. Our S is mainly just looking forward to getting his ID. Since our older son is currently at UPark, Son #2 has already stayed on campus and knows his way around pretty well, so he doesn’t really need the tour. As for scheduling classes, we’re assuming we’ll rearrange his schedule after we get home from FTCAP, as we did with our first son.

My D was originally scheduled for mid-June but we moved it to June 25 to coincide with our annual trip to the Outer Banks. I know that sounds odd but the trip from the Memphis TN area is a haul to both Penn State and the Outer Banks. We have a room reservation at the Nittany Lion Inn the evening before. I have never seen the campus and am looking forward to it as a parent. She spent five days there last summer at rugby camp and fell in love with the place.

We’re going on May 22. Our S is doing LEAP this summer. He still has mixed feelings about giving up his summer to do the program, but he wanted University Park so badly that he was willing to start school only 3 days after graduation. So far we have only heard good things about LEAP. Does amyone know how long the FTCAP day is?

It’s an all-day thing. If I recall, it lasts until at least 3 or 4 p.m. The first hour or two is really hectic, because everyone swarms the hub to get their ID, online account, etc. Try to arrive as soon as that part opens. Otherwise, you might be late to the first session. If both parents are coming, it’s a good idea to drop off one parent and the student at the hub as soon as you arrive on campus, so they can get started while the other parent finds a parking space.

Dear momwriter- Thanks for the info. There are three of us going so we’ll follow your advice.

What is the latest date that I can participate??

There are some in August I know. But then again, the later your FTCAP date, the worse the selection of classes you will have.

If you are going to arrive the day before your FTCAP and spend the night in State College, stop by the HUB and get your ID card then. The ID office is open to, I believe, 5 p.m. It will make things easier and save you alot of time the morning of FTCAP. (Of course, this doesn’t work if your FTCAP is on Monday.)

Thanks for that great idea! I am hopeful that we can get there by then the day before.
