Full Ride at Georgetown (Mcdonough School o Business) or Sticker price at NYU Stern?

Hey everybody, I am a transfer student (rising junior) from Rutgers University (NB) and I recently got accepted in NYU Stern where I have to pay every penny ( probably take loans) and Georgetown's Mcdonough School of Business where I have a full ride. I am an accounting and finance major and I want to break into investment banking. I dont think I would like to do anything other than IB so there is no other option for me. I really want to work at Wall Street. What do you guys think of both schools in terms of recruting for Wall Street? I will really appreciate your comments and opinions. I know Stern is a target but how would you equate free ride and opportunities at Stern? Thank you everyone for reading this.

No brainer. Georgetown. Georgetown is target too.

I would take the Georgetown offer. Georgetown is a great school, and their business school is in the top 25. You can check out their senior survey here:

<a href=“Cawley Career Education Center | Georgetown University”>Cawley Career Education Center | Georgetown University;

Only 11% of Georgetown business school undergrad alumni were seeking employment when they responded. Most of them went into IB, consulting, or accounting. The list of employers included some of the biggest Wall Street firms - PricewaterhouseCoopers, Merrill Lynch, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, JPMorganChase, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, Accenture, Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley…

The other thing is that if you want to get your MBA at a later date, that will be very expensive - probably $150-200K. You will be making a lot of money, but your debt burden will be lower if you choose Georgetown over Stern.

You don’t know yet whether you wouldn’t want to do anything other than IB, because you haven’t even started working yet. Don’t limit yourself.

NYU is notorious for sticking students with full tuition.

Well, comparatively NYU has a hideously small endowment. Something like $40,000 per student?

Go with the georgetown offer, hands down.

Are you sure you’re a business student?

Georgetown.

@Sikorsky Yes,I was accepted into Mcdonough School of Business - Accounting. But I will add on Finance as my double major.

Georgetown.

Full pay at NYU Stern is the best way for you to go as a business/finance major. After graduation, you will get first hand experience with applying for deferments, forbearances and possibly bankruptcy given the loans that you will take out and the possibility of not getting that 6 digit starting salary you are expecting.

BTW, bankruptcy will not erase your student loans.

How many kids from Georgetown end up at top MBA programs like Wharton, Stanford, and Harvard? I know Georgetown name is prestigious and sounds great at social settings but I just want to know how graduate schools look at it? Thank you for all your replies.

You come across as very naive.

Yes, I am new to all this and moved to USA 2 years ago. So only thing I know is rankings on various websites but I dont know anyone who attended NYU Stern or Georgetown MSB. That is why I am seeking outside opinion to make my decision. Moreover, I dont trust rankings anyway. Thank you

If you have to even ask this question you might think about NOT going into business. :)

You will find that many/(most?) kids in top MBA programs did not major in undergrad biz. They majored in a traditional liberal arts program instead.

Regardless, what gets one into top MBA programs is top-notch work experience, grades & GMAT. Undergrad college is waaaaay down the list.

Hey Bluebayou, thanks. I was just asking because I read something about top MBA feeder schools at poetsandquants.com . Right now I am just focusing on SA at top BB so that I can get full time offer. I don’t want to come out of Georgetown searching for IBD position like I would if I attend Rutgers (Which dont even offer double major in Finance and Accounting). I hope Georgetown present me great opportunities.

The opportunities are up to you. You get what you give no matter where you go.

When you even have NYU students telling you to go to Georgetown, you know it’s the best decision by far. Georgetown is as much a target as Stern for IB, and it’s free. No competition and easy decision.

NYU doesn’t insure anyone success on Wall St (disclaimer - I am an alum) - and incidentally there is a subgroup forming on LinkedIn for unemployed Stern MBAs right now. Enjoy Georgetown!

NYU is really behind as a feeder school in these tables! I’m a bit surprised by how much.

Georgetown. Unless your family can pay for NYU without anyone taking one cent in loans or suffering financial hardship.

Both of these are good universities, but only one of them actually wants to have you as a student. Your choice here is between staying at your current U or going to Georgtown.
