D just got a card from the University of Houston’s Honors College:
The University of Houston will automatically award scholarship support to cover the cost of tuition, required fees, room, and board, including a $1000 undergraduate research stipend and a $2000 study abroad stipend, to National Merit Scholarship finalists who select the University of Houston as their first-choice institution in accordance with the rules and deadlines established by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

@BobWallace Sorry I must have overlooked that one!
@3scoutsmom DS got a card from Oklahoma earlier in the year, but nothing from Houston. Do you think they know something we don’t know?
@3boystogo National Merit does put out a list by state of all semifinalist not sure if they have this yet or just a list of kids with x scores and above. I did ask at our OU visit about a list for finalists and was told that they don’t get a list of finalists though.
@3boystogo You probably just haven’t received the Houston one yet. DD received her Oklahoma card earlier this year too, but the Houston card came in the mail yesterday.
@lonetreegrad You were right. It came today.
Does anyone know if room and board has been dropped from the scholarship given to NMF? Their website says “The University of Houston will automatically award scholarship support to cover the cost of tuition and required fees, including a $1000 undergraduate research stipend and a $2000 study abroad stipend, to National Merit Scholarship finalists who select the University of Houston as their first-choice institution in accordance with the rules and deadlines established by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).”
@datahead “National Merit Scholarship Finalist

TL;DR: We don’t know. I seriously hope they don’t remove room and board for fall 2018.
Anyone who is pursuing the NMF scholarship should also apply for the Tier One Scholarship program. The application process for Tier One is fairly easy. It is a great program that includes two years of housing along with tuition benefits. But no double dipping on tuition with the NMF scholarship! http://www.uh.edu/tieronescholars/benefits/
