Full-Ride Financial Aid for International Student.

Here is another post:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/148852-what-ive-learned-about-full-ride-scholarships.html

The above posted link (what I’ve learned about full ride scholarships) is one of my favorite threads on CC. Even though the thread itself is a bit old, it still has some great info. The OP to THIS thread, however, is an international student and many of the options that were available to momfromtexas for her kids will not be available to to this student. SO…OP, if you find a school on the list you need to check to make sure that the school awards aid to international students and that you are eligible for what you THINK you are eligible.

Again I’ll say…if your SAT score gets above 2200, you will be in better shape, but a GPA of 80/100 is not going to get you terrific full ride merit awards…just won’t.

OP, what’s holding you back is not your SAT score per se but your GPA. The most important part of your college application is your transcript. In the US, due to grade inflation and weighting of honors/ AP courses, a 80/100 average (or a B-) isn’t good enough to get accepted into the top colleges with the best need based financial aid for international students. Even if you are in the international pool and colleges understand that grading standards are different, chances are, there are other international students with higher GPAs than yours.

I know, thumper, but he hadn’t listened to pages of advice regarding his GPA already (I replied earlier in the thread as well)… so when he asked again in post #60 “I am just looking for college that can give me full-ride 4 year education…” I pointed him in the direction of other information.

Let him apply and try. He might get lucky.

BTW, unlike english level, It is difficult to raise SAT scores… it would be a MIRACLE if you got 2000 in the end… but miracles happen, so we try to show some support, by saying that YOU have some chances. In answer, you are shouting at us as if ‘‘why dont you say YES??? I will apply 10 months later!!!’’
remember, 10 months dont give you anything BUT TIME. try to spent that time properly.
I loughed when I read ‘‘SAT II: MathI/MathII/Physics’’, and where are the scores?? =))) xDD
REC. letters, of course 2, thats necessary, they have to be wonderful!
MOST of us are also JUST LOOKING for a free education. so what?

@ Well, I think it’s OK to dream big as long as you’re prepared to be disappointed big, too. This poster chose his screen name with some thought, I guess. See the link below:

Suleiman the Magnificent - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Suleyman is a name of most turkish. He might be from Turkeministan, or Kazakhstan, and there that name is commonplace. I wonder if he knows who was that person xD
He just put HIS name…

You are also really young. Most traditionally aged American students start college between the ages of 17 and 19 years. Perhaps your SAT scores would benefit from working abroad for a bit to improve your English. That being said, SAT scores are not going to “cancel out” your GPA.

NewYorkUAD it is easy to bash others – particularly if they make choices that seem to open the door for a quick jab.

I had a buddy in high school named “Washington” and we have a relative named “Lincoln” --and I’d be sad or irked if someone made fun of them here because of their name connection to a person of historical importance.

Names aren’t important – helping one another is.

I’m sorry, you didnt unterstand my post. in the third page [megdog] said that he has chosen such a name in CC, with thought. I am just familiar with Asian culture and know assumed that he didnt chose that becuse of famous person, but it is just his name.

Here is what megdog said:

no one is here making fun of their names. I explicated to megdog that he might be wrong.

I don’t even remember when I was laughing so hard… This thread is too good! hahahaha,
hey Suleyman, I was just wondering how old you are???

da-a-amn suleyman,

are u just gonna let it go!!! i mea-a-an, people are getting seriously concerned about your superiority… You gotta step up and show us them skilzzZZ you got ;)

@ProNivel ===
Look at his name. he was born in 1995. I guess the rest you will find out yourself.

Maaaaan Suleyman you cease to disappoint me! The people on this thread are trying to tell you the truth, the reality of your situation, and the reality of your hypothetical situation, and you still disrespect and act rude towards them. My man if this is how you’re going to act you’re not suited for the US. I know many people that would pop you for writing the stuff you are. Hahahahahaha man this thread is entertaining.

Nice joke topic.

A bit of advice for international students: have you ever heard of the education consulting agency EducationUSA? This is a program by American Councils for International Education, which has offices in many countries of the world. They provide international students with free advice on applying to American schools and other related things. They help students evaluate their chances, find the right school, and if a student needs substantial financial aid they will give him a list of schools which grant need-based financial aid to international applicants. If you are interested, just google EducationUSA and then find their office in your country. Hope this will help:)

^
I was calling EducationUSA office…

Office: USeducation center, how can I help you?
I: yes. hello. I would like to know where can I take the AP?
Office: again?
I: I need to know where can I take the AP in my country.
Office: AP? what’s that?
I: hmm…it’s the US exam…
Office: We don’t have such term in our database. Bye.
I: bye

Sorry guys, I was very busy with my TOEFL.

Yeah and one thing.
I am looking for the SAT scholarship. I mean some kind of organization which gives $ for high scores.

Maybe you’d better GET a high score first.
