Full ride to UNC chapel hill

Is there any way to get a full ride to UNC on a merit scholarship? If so what is required of me to do?

Morehead Cain

The information regarding merit scholarships is on the website. You should know that getting merit is extremely competitive.

Are you instate or out of state? If you are OOS, you should be more concerned about actually getting accepted. Not an easy task for OOS students.

@thumper1 is right about that.

Robertson Scholarship comes to mind. But your state residence will be a huge swayer in whether you get in at all

They give need based aid, did you try their net price calculator?

This student has not provided enough information. Yes, they give merit aid…but FULL RIDES…complete cost of attendance merit awards are not particularly plentiful.

What does it take? You need to be nominated for Morehead Cain, don’t you? In addition, you would need to be a tippy top applicant.

This student hasn’t provided enough info for us to say whether or not a full ride merit award is possible.

But I’ll go back to my first reply. Getting accepted if OOS would,be,challenge number one.

Getting merit aid isn’t an easy oeasy task either…and a full ride…is not an easy thing…at all.

If you read the profiles of the students who have receive the Morehead Cain scholarships in past years, their bois read like Ivy cadidates and although there are some out of state recipients, the majority are NC residents.

This. The Morehead Cain recipients I know turned down, like, Harvard to go.

Right. Those scholarships are used to poach otherwise-ivy-bound tippy top students.

As others stated, it is possible. The reality is that UNC gives VERY little merit aid and even less full rides. For what I have seen of the Morehead Cain Scholars are not only IVY League caliber academically but they have exceptional achievements outside of academics.

However UNC can be very generous if you have need based aid. They are one of the few public schools that meet full need (as they define it using the CSS Profile) for in-state residents and possibly for OSS.

There are additional full ride scholarships available at UNC other than the Morehead Cain if you are OOS. You can take a look at UNC’s Scholars Program website. You will find information on the Carolina Scholars, Colonel Robinson, and Pogue Scholars which are all full tuition, fees, room and board scholarships for OOS students. However, only about 5% of UNC students will receive scholarship with even less receiving full rides. All of the above posts are correct in stating that you will need to have top stats, notable ECs, etc. to even have a shot at those types of awards. Even then, it is not a guarantee. This statement stands true for pretty much any highly rated school. However, if a full ride is of concern for you, it is often possible/easier/guaranteed (with a similar profile) to achieve these types of scholarships at lower ranked schools. They are certainly out there. You just have to broaden which schools you are willing to entertain as potential candidates.

I’m in state

Do you have very high level achievements?

Yes I’m a Straight A student and I take the hardest classes my school offers

That’s not what I meant. I meant do you have any high level extra curricular achievements?

UNC innovation scholar program…for this year, 20 finalists, where 15 instate and 5 out of state. 3 winners determined by 20-30 minute interview of faculty and past winners. Very causal. They quoted D’s essays so I suppose that is why she was selected.

Robertson…outside consultants with very intense interviews…15 winners out of 50 finalists. Can’t comment for UNC much specifically as D went for Duke.

Best of luck!!

Oh I’m sorry and yes. I play sports, I’m in clubs, I volunteer, and I do stuff with my church.

I want to major in biology (pre-med)
