I’m definitely interested, but I have one question. Do you know if Cornell reduces the amount of financial aid they give to a student who lives on campus their freshman year but then lives in the Telluride House afterwards?

I’m interested also. What are some of the things that you look for in an applicant in order to accept them into the Tellude community? and also, like meeeesh, I’m curious about whether or not Cornell reduces FA?

As with other Telluride Association programs, there is no ideal candidate. We consider them in relation to the current House atmosphere as well as more general standards. Do they show intellectual curiosity? Good writing? Are they interesting? We hold many events for our applicants where we get to meet them informally outside of interviews and paper applications.

Cornell does the same thing with Telluride House that it does with ALL other outsider scholarships. Your FA is reduced by the estimated value of the House scholarship, which is calculated in whatever way Cornell chooses to estimate room and board costs. It removes aid in the form of loans and work-study before it touches grants. In my opinion, this doesn’t hurt your aid because that’s the theoretical value that would go to paying for a dorm or apartment. In many ways you save more money living in the House than Cornell takes from you, as we have our own free laundry facilities, TV, snacks, and other things outside of just rooming and meals.

Based on the photo of the residents, I’d apply for the scholarship if I have the honor of being accepted to Cornell.

A resident has a Hella <3 Oakland shirt on. I think I’m in-love. ;-)
