I just received an email about the Telluride Association room and board scholarship for students at the University of Michigan. I was wondering if anyone who has heard about it/lives there could give me some more information on it. It seems nice with a chef, a personal room, and cleaning service...but as an incoming freshmen, I'm worried that it would make making friends in the freshmen class harder cause I don't live in the dorms. Plus, to apply, I have to write four essays ugh. Basically, is it worth it?

i also got that email too. Is it sent to basically everyone who was accepted, or just students who they think might have a shot at it (hopefully the latter!).

The application looks insane. Three to six pages for an essay?! I tried researching a bit on the Telluride house and chances at getting in, but i can't find much information.

I'm wondering the same things as well...

I probably won't be able to go to Michigan even with the 10k scholarship I got, but this would make it very possible. This scholarship is worth like 17k/year... But my EFC is like 32k/year.

So, I read that it's off campus. Wouldn't that make it hard to make lots of new friends and whatnot since you're isolated? Also, is the service aspect of the house a big deal, not so big deal, etc?

Is it considered a good housing option as freshman?

I'd love to save that much on room and board, and it seems like a great facility, it just might not be the right place to live freshman year...

Yeah, I got the email too and checked around the website. Based on what I see, I feel like its a better opportunity for the older students who live there, as it seems (as aforementioned) rather isolated. Also, the requirements (community service, house events, etc) I feel would be difficult to achieve as a freshman when you're trying to figure everything out and do new things. However, not having to pay for room and board is definitely a big plus...
