Fun at Bowdoin?

If you are not an outdoors type, how do you have fun at Bowdoin? Is it a party like atmosphere or do students hook up via common extracurricular and academic interests? How much of the social life is facilitated by the school via organized events, parties, etc…?

There are a lot of parties every Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights. Generally people meet friends through common living facilities (you know your dorm mates really well) athletics, and some of the big extracurriculars: Singing and Outing Club.

The social life can be what you want - school facilitated parties are basically the social house parties. There's one of those every weekend night. But generally people clear out of those later in the night and go to private parties, but everyone is invited. I have never been unwelcome at a party, even the sports specific parties.

There is also always the option to just hang out with friends in the gigantic dorm rooms and watch a movie, which is actually pretty common, from what I've seen.

Do you go to Bowdoin? I applied ED to Bowdoin. Can you tell me my chances?

You rock! Go Bowdoin!!!! Parties on Thurday nights? Hmmm I'm down with Fri. and Sat, but Thursday!!!

yes I do go to Bowdoin. I have no clue for your chances, I'm too lazy :-p to read all of the extracurriculars, you'll know within a week and a half.

Partying thursday night happens because people schedule classes so they have no friday class. Big party nights thursday and saturday. Friday night there are certainly parties, but generally the big nights are thursday/saturday.

it is a drinking/party school? I don't drink so would I be like the only one? how much party is there in general?

You won't be the only non-drinker, although there is a good deal of drinking. I came here being a moderate drinker, but now I find myself drinking almost every weekend along with a lot of my friends here. It all depends on how you want to control the situation, however.

There is nothing to do in Brunswick...I grew up 10 minutes away from Bowdoin and this has to be the most boring place on the entire planet

Do you go here?

I find that the college kids have a lot more fun than the townies do.

No I go to Tufts.

And let me tell you, I am simply altogether incapable of invisioning any extensive or long term entertainment on that campus. I mean seriously, what do you guys do all the time?

illmaticmindstate, my godson at Bowdoin doesn't have a single free minute. He has so much to do that he has to try to juggle things (such as going to a weekend forum, rushing back for a dinner party, rushing back to the forum before going to a concert at Bates or in Portland, or a play or concert at Bowdoin....heck, Wynton Marsalis played there!)... in other words, there are usually two or three or more things going on at once, and he says his biggest problem is trying to squeeze things in!

If he has too much trouble trying to squeeze things in, he simply does not have the ability to manage time very well. I find that so much of my time here is wasted because of the fact that there is nothing to do on campus half the time, and to be fully honest the academics here are subpar because of the lack of people here with an adequate mental capacity.

dor, do you seriously go to Bowdoin? If find it hard to believe that with all the negative things you have to say about the school. Every school has it cons but i've heard too many good things about Bowdoin to believe its as bad as most of your posts say it is.

"Dor" has all the markings of a troll . . . I wouldn't waste time with him or her. . .

Oh I do plenty of stuff on campus, mainly to kill idle time. Every school does have its cons, this is true. But it is also true that you do not have to go far to find someone that dislikes it here immensly

ok, dor, private message me your identity. Or feel free to call me to talk about it. It can't be hard to guess who I am... My last name starts with an 'r'.

Also, why revive a post that's nearly 2 years old?

So exactly what is it that you would like to talk to me about?

your miserable experience here and the fact that I don't believe you're actually a student.

Experiences here have not been made any better with my interactions with ladd house affiliates, that's for sure.

Ok, you've totally convinced me that you go here. It's not like I have ever posted the fact that I live in Ladd on these forums.

Either you go here or you don't, your experience is not the standard for students at this college.
