Fun at Williams?

I am an admitted student to williams and my main concern with attending Williams as that there may be little to do outside of classes. My hosts spent time doing video editing and I heard that people spend friday night reading for fun so I didn't see a work hard, play hard mentality at Williams, just a work hard mentality. Can someone have a traditional college experience (parties/alcohol) at Williams?

Williams is all about the traditional college experience. Don’t worry. There are all-campus parties every weekend plus certain groups have their own parties, so I doubt you’ll have any trouble with respect to that

Sports mannn! haha

I’m really looking forward to doing track at Williams.

If you want it, it’s there.

“If you want it, it’s there.”

So how much “it” is there at Williams then? What percentage of students, in your opinion, do drugs (not pot)? Is this a problem that impacts student interactions? For instance, are there students who come in to class visibly high on coke or pills? I ask as a high school teacher who regularly has to deal with students on pills, coke & alcohol (in that order as a visible problem). Students think teachers have no idea, but believe me, we do. It’s only that it’s extremely hard to prove.

Perhaps this should be a separate thread?

Ok, so I’m often somewhat clueless about what’s going on around me, but I’ve never in my four years here run into someone high on drugs. Winter Study excepted, I’ve never seen anyone come into class under the influence of anything other than coffee/red bull/some other (legal) stimulant. I’m sure there are people who do drugs, but I don’t know of anyone (even though there must be some people) who’s gone to class high. Or if they have, it’s not something that’s done on a regular basis.

Drinking on weekends on the other hand, and the accompanying problems…well, that’s a whole different story.

Students here are very serious about schoolwork during the week. Since Previews were Monday - Tuesday, you probably didn’t get a great look at what students really do for fun (especially since it was a midterm-heavy week).

Yes, the weekends can be wicked crazy. It depends on how you want to spend it. There is no lack of crazy drunken dance parties (which are surprisingly fun even if you are sober). There are also theatre/dance/music events, which are also great and well done.

Thanks–That’s reassuring. Glad to hear that.

Pot is actually relatively common-- I’m really shocked that you haven’t (at least in your entry) met anyone who has been high. I’ve heard that there are people who do hard drugs but it is an incredibly small minority (have yet to meet people here who do, as opposed to high school).

There are ample opportunities both during and at the end of the week. I was never, ever bored.
