Future Bearcats

Thanks Toombs although I know how high-level German is at Hotchkiss. I’m just hoping I can get into second year

Did your son do the humanities or the English track?

My son didn’t hop on the humanities track because it starts in the prep year. My son entered THS as a lower mid, so he had to take the English track (which he loves, by the way).

I’m a current student (lowermid, or sophomore) at Hotchkiss. I’ve been there for two years and have loved it so far! So, if any of you have questions feel free to PM me.

Can you please give some details about the humanities track at Hotchkiss? Which track is most popular with freshmen? Thanks. Go Bearcats!

Actually it may be better if you post the answer on the “Hotchkiss Thread” towards the bottom of the first page.

I really don’t want a roommate, because I’m messy, and I hope for their sake that they wouldn’t have to deal with that, haha.

Boy or girl and what year they are going into?
Girl, Freshman

sporty or artsy?
ARTSY

favorite class?
Umm… art? XD and math. (yeah i know, weird combination)

favorite book?
the five people you meet in heaven (by mitch album)

favorite film?
SO MANY! probably Batman: The Dark Knight (christopher nolan!)

Welcome vivster! Haha, the combination isn’t that weird. In Germany teachers have masters and teach two subjects. Last year my math and art teacher were the same. Your not alone. :D

Does anyone know exactly when Hotchkiss will mail course selection forms, placement exams, etc.? It says ‘late april’, so would that be the last week of April? (I’m so excited!)

Do you guys already know what courses you want to take?

Is the humanities track at Hotchkiss possible entering as a lower-mid?

Hi guys.
I’m a Chinese girl, currently exchanging in a public school in Windham, CT

  1. Boy or girl and what year they are going into?
Girl, going to be an upper mid, or junior, I’m repeating junior year.
  2. sporty or artsy?
em actually, neither… more of a social science fan
  3. favorite class?
    political science, environ. science

I’m struggling in choosing my third language besides Chinese and English, considering the fact that, only 2 years left.

@lexie101816,
Yes, it is possible to take humanities starting as a sophomore. I asked my host about it on the revisit day, and she pointed out a boy in her class who started as a new sophomore and took humanities.

I’m coming as a new sophomore too, and I really want to take it! Also, since the school is going to require it of all preps from now on, I think it’s a good idea

I am planning on taking the English track because I am hoping to be an English major. I am really looking forward to their daily writing segment.

Thanks! Can you please explain to me the differences and the pros and cons of doing the humanities or the english track please? Or give me a link? Thanks!

@martay: We did not attend the revisit day… are they requiring the humanities course starting this coming year for all preps? What else was said about it?

It is my understanding that THS students in the intergrated humanities program take a certain prep English course and the AP US History course and then study at the same time American literature and American history covering the same time periods.

Because my S entered THS as a lower mid and took AP US History at his prior school as a freshman, he didn’t take the intergrated humanities program at Hotchkiss. To have pursued the intergrated hum program would have been a “con” for my S.

Hm18, Integrated humanities is a 2 year program that is required of all incoming freshmen. It consists of 2 years of English, History, and Arts (visual, music, philosophy, and religion). This will prepare the students for higher level/AP courses in Jr/Sr years. The program will save time compared to taking the courses independently prior to this program.

Pulsar, can you please explain what it is like entering as a lower mid?

I only went to the freshman revisit. You can find the lower mid curriculum here:
[Curriculum](http://www.hotchkiss.org/academics/curriculum/index.aspx)[/u]

p15, Thanks for the explanation, as I was getting conflicting info.

p15, THANKS!
