Hey guys, I know that it’s late, but I cannot wait. I am “dying” to get into an Ivy League college, specifically Brown, Harvard, UPenn, or Yale. My mom went to Brown, which can help. I have been to two summer camps at Brown (awesome experience), and I fell in love with the place. I want to even play basketball to increase admission chances. I am only a sophomore and have not taken the SAT yet (will take in fall), so don’t chew me out on it!Also, I have about 20 inventions that I will “sell” this summer/ work with company in nearby city.

Hey guys, could you please give me some advice on what my chances of admission are? Brown is without question my number one choice. Also, does Brown have a better biomedical engineering department than UPenn? I have heard excellent things about this department at Brown, but what do you have to say? Please tell me what you think!!!

Okay…you posted this on seven other forums. That says something about you.
I have this feeling that this is some kind of closet ■■■■■, but oh well.

Your stats are good, and you seem well-rounded.
But there is this sinking feeling that you may get rejected at like all Ivies except like two.
I do not know why. I have this feeling that you don’t seem like the type who can stick to one thing and see it through, or you do too much for your own good.

There is just something wrong with this picture.

And yes, I noticed that he posted this everywhere.
And dude, get a grip, IVY status is not everything. There are a boat load of colleges like MIT and CALTECH that isn’t IVY but up there.

Anyways, having posted in all the other places where you spammed, here’s my verdict. Hopefully since you did go to Brown twice, you should have a social network going. That should at least give you something as an edge in getting into here. You better do ED, if you are serious. Otherwise, major fail is forecasted next year.

OK, I have to say this upon reading the title (and content) of your post:

If you’re applying to 4 Ivy League Schools (or more? hard to tell), you don’t know what you want out of a college. If they didn’t have that plant associated with them, which ones would you really want to go to? The experience at Brown, Harvard, Yale, and Penn is going to be really different, and there are many more very good schools that are probably more similar to any one of those.

As a Brown student now, in the interest of my institution, I have to say, if the only reason you’re applying is because of the “prestige,” please, please, please look somewhere else. If, on the other hand, there are real and substantive factors that are drawing you to Brown and that would draw you to Brown even if it were in the Crabgrass League and named something else, well then, best of luck.

Thanks for the tips guys! I am not a closet ■■■■■ and I do not solely plan on going to an ivy league school simply for “prestige.” I do not take pride in seeing somebody’s jaw drop over hearing wherei want to go to school. I am not going to forget about Johns Hopkins, MIT, or Caltech. Also, I am looking at Wake Forest and Duke; I am not an elitist, I simply want a great education. I want to study biomedical engineering, and love Brown because I love Providence (important), the people in the city (friendly), and because I had a great feeling on campus (was not hallucinating). I know a few pre-med guys who will do work in the admissions office and they told me thst bown is perfect for me. I am looking at all Ivies because of the connections that I can make to be succesful! Happy Easter!!! :)

BT, I forget to mention my class rank. I am in a four-way tie for first (39 kids in grade), but should surpass my friends because I plan to take more APs. I am a workhorse-type of guy and am exremely ambitous.

lfsc: “If, on the other hand, there are real and substantive factors that are drawing you to Brown and that would draw you to Brown even if it were in the Crabgrass League and named something else, well then, best of luck.”

I giggled so hard that snot flew out of my nose when I thought of all the Ivy’s renaming themselves to be in the Crabgrass League.

Gross, I know. But I thought you’d be flattered.

Guys, the prestige is not wat I am after. I just want a top-flight education and I am willing to work hard to get what I desire. That’s why I said I am interested in Duke, Caltech, MIT, Hopkins, and Wake. But I do have to say that if the Ivies renamed themselves the “Crabgrass League” it would be hysterical!!!

Honestly, though… I don’t think it’s that bad that many kids try to apply to so many Ivy’s. I know why I did.

Because they all compete with each other for financial aid, I wanted to apply to these schools with large endowments so that it could be feasible for me to attend a school on the east coast. As a Californian, it wasn’t that I was necessarily attracted to the prestige, but rather this:

I could have paid in-state tuition to go to Berkeley, a wonderful school. The only other things that I would consider were reputable schools that are known to give outstanding financial aid packages.

That’s my reasoning. I can see how people can be direly misguided by being attracted to a school merely for prestige, but, it’s important for us to remember that people will apply to a particular group of schools for many different reasons as well.

You are a sophomore, it is MUCH too early to be asking chances. Your junior year is the most crucial in college admissions.

Your chances are 10 percent, like almost everyone else who applies. Absolutely no one here can tell you any better than that. Unless you are recruited for basketball.

I agree with the other party poopers. Each Ivy League schools is totally totally different. If you like Harvard a lot, you probably shouldn’t be looking at schools like Brown. If you dig UPenn, why on Earth would you be considering a school like Yale?

You have got to study a lot more about the character of the school. If prestige matters that much to you, just apply everywhere… but I couldn’t guarantee that you’ll be happy at any Ivy. A Columbia education is, for example, the literal opposite of a Brown education.

If you REALLY want to maximize your chances (honestly):
Begin in-depth research of schools that would make you happy to live at. Schools with campuses that make you smile, people you could hang out with, classes that make you really impatient to start school. The more compatible you are with a college, the more likely the college will see that you belong there, too. HONESTLY.

(…Admittedly, I totally posted a chances thread as a sophomore… hehe)
