Future Pitt nursing applicant - Honors physics or academic anatomy & physiology

We visited Pitt last week and someone in the nursing program mentioned that Physics is not a prerequisite but that Anatomy & physiology is recommended. In my Ds H.S. Physics is an honors class and A&P is not. She’s concerned about her GPA since she’s only been in honors classes until this point. Would this class not being an honors class cause a significant dip in her GPA? Thanks for any thoughts.

Is she going to be a junior or senior?

Junior

Doesn’t that depend on how your school weights honors vs non-honors classes? I’m assuming it’s a small impact - since it’s one class out of 4 yrs of classes.

Has she taken bio and chem honors? Then could she take physics honors junior year and A&P senior year?

She has taken chem honors and is taking AP Chem jr year, was advised by chem teacher to take that instead of bio this year, he recommended honors physics (as an elective), I guess to have the most challenging schedule?

@fazevan My S16 will be a Pitt nursing major this fall. He took Anatomy and Physiology Honors, Bio I Honors, Chem I Honors, AP Chem, AP Bio and Nutrition Honors in HS. He never took physics, but we knew that none of the schools he was interested in required it for nursing. We came across maybe one or two that did.

If your D has a good GPA, I would not worry about the Anatomy and Physiology not being an honors class. My S16 took a handful of non-honors classes and it hardly made a difference. The material in the A&P class is good to have as a future nursing major.

Good luck!

@RyanG1207 thank you!!

Yes, if she is sure about nursing then I would do AP chem junior year and A&P senior year. Usually the GPA considered for application is through junior year.

But if she might change her mind, having at least one of bio, chem and physics would be better imo.
