future premed... not so great gpa...

Well, I'm a highschool junior and I'm planning on going pre-med. Only thing is... i'm not sure what colleges I should be looking at with my grades... I mean, they're not like SUPER BAD, but they're not AMAZING perfect either.

Grades are as follows:
Freshman year: 3.583 GPA
Sophomore year: 3.868 GPA
Currently, as quarter report: 4.0

Keep in mind, however, these are weighted GPA's on a 5.0 scale. My Total Academic GPA (unweighted, 4.0 scale) is 3.39, (weighted, 5.0 scale) is 3.75.

I'm taking all advanced classes. This year, every single class is AP except journalism (which i've done since freshman year).

I do a lot of extra curriculars too, I played water polo fresh/soph years, and I volunteer at the local hospital.

I really would like to go to Stanford, Dartmouth, Cornell, or Penn.... but... i think that's probably reaching a bit... oh, I should probably mention that I live in california... so i'm also considering schools like UC Berkley, and UC Davis. UCLA (maybe) and last resort (UCSB)... but i'm not sure if I even have a shot at berkley... so i could use some help with making the decisions of where to apply. thanks a lot.

Your grades are not that bad. Try to ace SAT / ACT (get at least 31-32). I would start testing this year (especially ACT), because you can only send your best scores. In any cases Stanford and ivies will be huge reaches for you.

Take a look at some good LACs (if you don't mind small size). You might be able to get into Rice, Emory (excellent for premed).
