Just wanted to inform those that have also applied there. Cheers.

Yeah, rejected. now USC is my only hope, but I doubt I’ll have any luck with it too.

mimizist-sameeee here. Berkeley rejected me (no surprise there) so now I’m concerned SC will too.

My DS too got rejected from Cal, but his USC status changed. To take the sting off of the rejection, he found out he got a full-ride to Ohio State through a competitive scholarship program. Since we are a USC family, I hope USC will accept him.

S aacepted to Cal OOS but wants USC! Status changed to forwarded yesterday!

Got rejected from Cal. So depressed right now.

Why would your s want USC over Cal? Cal is a better school and even out of state i would assume its a cheaper price.

USC, granted 4 years!

Accepted to both USC and Cal today OOS. Nice for it all to finally be over. Best of luck to everyone still waiting!!

^^^ not at all ej. Cal is a great public U with a terrific rep of course. However, no one who lives in-state has heard any good news about funding for our state U’s and it is only getting harder to get classes, graduate in 4 years, etc. For OOS students, the cost is very close to USC, yet USC may offer more FinAid. As far as academics and amazing majors/schools, USC has undergrad business in Marshall, outstanding Music, Theatre, Cinema, Honors Programs, Communications, Neuroscience, Pre-med, and many many more. At USC you join the Trojan family, and make lifelong friends, gain entree into SoCal business opportunities and have access to really helpful USC alumni worldwide.

Just sayin’

“Cal is a better school”

Rankings aren’t everything.

S is very excited about acceptance to Cal but feels USC is a better fit for him. He really likes both schools and Cal does have one of the best engineering programs in the country, but USC is where is heart is–unfortunately USC’s heart might be elsewhere. He was also accepted to UCLA, UCSD…–I think the UCs might have gone easy on the OOSers this year.
Congratulation Norleans504

just a note…

On another board a TA at Cal remarked she has had 30 students in her discussion class. Now with the cuts she now has 120.

Cal has much emphasis on their graduate schools, but in my opinion the undergraduate experience does not equal that of SC.

Some interesting stats… From the 2008-2009 year

SC Teacher student ratio 1/9
CAL Teacher student ratio 1/15

According to the Council for Aid to Education 2010 USC is ranked 7th in the nation for raising funds. Cal is 19th.

Freshmen SAT for 2008 composite CAL 1210-1470
SC 1270-1470

Financial Resources CAL 43rd
SC 37th

Alumni giving rate CAL 113th
SC 7th
Only 13% of CAL alumni donate to the university.

Resouces for faculty CAL 35th
SC 27th

wow…

I got into Cal today, but USC Annenberg trumps it no questions asked. When I got my USC letter, I sent in my deposit immediately :)

Is USC an uprising star or what ? since Berkeley is so famous OOS.

I’m a mom of a current USC student who was admitted to Cal but chose USC… and has ABSOLUTELY NO regrets!

If I applied and got into Cal I’d choose USC over Cal, no hesitation!

Got rejected by Cal, but I already submitted by USC deposit a while back - USC was my #1. I kinda wish I got into Cal just so I could tell people I chose USC over Berkeley. Tragic.

Another mom here whose present USC sophomore D chose USC over Berkeley. Well, the Trustee sure helped in that decision, but regardless, if finaid would have been decent she would have chosen USC anyway.
Berkeley is a great school, but IMO is more so for graduate school.
D has several friends there, some regret their decision…are struggling with not getting their classes, brutal curving (especially in sciences/premed etc), and other complaints.
San Francisco though is a great city.
