G.P.A

On the UC websites, are they referring to unweighted or weighted GPAs. For example when I searched “UCI gpa 2015”, it says on their website that the average incoming freshmen GPA is 4.04. Here is the link: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/irvine/freshman-profile/

Also, do UCs recalculate high school GPAs? Is the UC GPA basically what your weighted GPA is? And do UCs look at both your weighted and unweighted GPA?

weighted.

No.

Actually, they make you recalculate it for them.

ok thank you so much!!

Here’s some information about UC GPAs: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/q-and-a/calculating-gpa/#5

The UC’s have a formula for their UC GPA. 10-11th grades only for the a-g course requirements. Capped at 8 semesters of UC approved Honors/AP/IB or DE courses taken 10-11th grade. UCLA and UCB will also look at uncapped UC GPA so unlimited honors points for these courses 10-11th grade.

I am a bit confused. So are the GPAs listed on UC websites the “UC GPA” or just the weighted GPA that your highschool calculates

The Freshman profile link you posted has the capped UC GPA averages for all the UC campuses. It is not your HS weighted GPA since many HS offer Honors courses that are not UC approved so you get no honors points for those classes in the UC GPA calculation. Here is a link to figure out which a-g courses from your HS are UC approved for the honors points. This is for in-state students only. If you are OOS, then only AP/IB or DE courses count for the honors points.

Type in the name of your High School in the box

UC GPA. There is no HS standard for weighting courses. Each HS/district can choose to weight classes as it sees fit; my HS weighted no classes at all.

Thank you for all your responses! I really appreciate it.
One last question, can someone explain the UC ELC?

UC ELC means that if you are not accepted to a UC campus of your choice, you will be guaranteed a spot at UC Merced (if room is available). You can be UC ELC eligible by being in the top 9% of your HS class or top 9% in the state. When you fill out your UC application with all your information, if you are ELC eligible, it will be noted at the end of your application upon submission. To figure out if you are UC Eligible by the statewide path, use this link:
