are either of these schools good schools, because my cousin wants to know

I have no information on either of these schools, but I saw your name. Are you gonna attend GT, or just a fan? I'd love to talk with someone about Tech as I've considered applying there this fall.

Georgia State and State University of West Georgia are not held in high regard.

I think you are better off going to GaTech or UGA.

UGA or Georgia Tech are held in higher regards, but Georgia State and West Georgia are great fall-back schools. I'm not very familiar with West Georgia, but I've taken classes at Georgia State as a high-school student so I think I can comment on it.

Georgia State is located in downtown Atlanta. It is literally smack in the middle of Atlanta. The campus is next to Underground Atlanta and is a short walk to the capital. Most people commute to Georgia State, but there's a significant amount of traditional students that live in the dorms. I love the campus, personally, because I like the whole urban feel. GSU, however, isn't really located in a nicer area of Atlanta. The nice neighborhoods of Atlanta are around midtown and buckhead, but the downtown area is full of panhandlers and downright thugs(if you have ever been downtown you would know what I am talking about). Georgia State has some decent programs, and is one of the few colleges nationwide to have Urban Planning as a major. It also has a decent law program and graduate school of public policy. Georgia State has a very large minority population. I'm not sure exactly what the numbers are, but my classes had more blacks than whites in them. Nothing wrong is with that, but a lot of times the whites and blacks don't associate with each other. I have been very impressed by the professors and some students, but overall GSU students are nothing special.
