Thanks to everyone in college confidential. It really helped us to cruise the process. Finally, the entire college application season is over. We are in last week of selecting the college.
We are out of state for all.
GA Tech - No Scholarship
USC - 15K Scholarship
UMich - No Scholarship
Vandy - 15K Scholarship
Washu - 20K Scholarship
CASE - 25K Scholarship
UW Seatte - No Scholarship
BSMD Programs - She got in to couple of BSMD. but she changed her mind to BME
Planning to choose GA Tech. Liked the campus and one of the best BME program.
(All the campus are gorgeous)
CASE was our top choice until GA Tech, USC & UMich came. We are eliminating Umich, USC, Vandy & Washu because of the cost.
Changing the major? No or very slim chance that my D would be changing the major.
She always wanted to go to medicine (med school). But last 2 years she has completely changed her mind to BME.
Considering final cost & BME academic reputation GA Tech wins in our case. Any thoughts? I would like to hear CC expert opinions.
Thanks Again
If money is at all an issue, the scholarship amounts don’t matter. What matters is your cost after the scholarship. Run your numbers here: http://www.finaid.org/calculators/awardletter.phtml
The 3 best BME schools on that list are Tech, Vandy, and WashU. Usually I would say that scholarship money counts, but Georgia Tech is the highest rated BME school on the list, so go with that.
Is your daughter considering pre-med? A BME major is not necessarily the most conducive for that. Plus BME is one of the hardest majors, but those acceptances show that your daughter has the academic ability to thrive in that environment.
Thanks @happymomof1
Thanks @Hamurtle
She was considering pre-med and wanted to do BME route. so that something happens BME will be a backup.
But last 2 years she is leaning towards BME. Now she is considering only. BME.
I would also suggest a CompSci minor/double major. Data Science and Bioinformatics are pretty hot fields in the job market and Georgia Tech obviously is one of the leaders in Computer Science.
@Hamurtle
thats a great suggestion. thanks
