Gaming

Do you guys play alot of video games? If so, how much and how does it affect your grades?

On steam: Found 292 Games with a value of
$3794.09 USD

Usually 10-20 hrs a week. Doesn’t effect my grades too much, i’m responsible (enough)

Casual internet browsing is more of a concern to my productivity than gaming, since gaming works for the study hard, play hard mentality.

My amount of gaming is alot less than in high school/at home. I just don’t find the time to play as much, and would use the time to get work done, which I find better and more relieving knowing I wont be swamped as much with work.

Nope. One of my suitemates brought her DDR dance pad and Rock Band, but we haven’t played Rock Band or DDR that much. I think we’ve only played Rock Band twice and DDR 2-3 times last quarter.

I used to play a lot more in high school. Now it’s mostly Rock Band. Doesn’t really affect my grades. I do want to get a racing wheel and Forza 4.

Ever since starting college, my gaming has been limited to a couple of ridiculously complex games like Dwarf Fortress that are good for resetting my brain when I get in a rut from too much studying. I’d estimate that I average about 5 hours a week, but it’s usually in 3-4 hour binges rather than spaced out.

Like was said above, casual internet browsing is a bigger hit to my productivity.

I play 8-10 hours of Minecraft a week. Current GPA: 3.8/4.0 which ****es me off since I was missing the cutoff for a class by 0.5 points …

Used to play Runescape/WoW, but quit when I’m in school. I get distracted by browsing the web and so adding games to the mix would be absolutely detrimental to my GPA lol. Just don’t have as much time as I used to.

It all depends on what sort of thing you do to waste time when you don’t feel like focusing. My friends would be sitting in the cluster on facebook, I’d be playing Civ 2.

when I buy mass effect 3, my grades are going to drop like a stone… not really, but it will be the game of the year for sure

Rock Band counts as a video game? .__.

The guys are on my floor are pretty big on N64 and Super Smash Bros so I played that a bit, but not too much because I always suck at it lol. But another one of the guys came back from break and brought his Wii so I’ve been playing Mario Kart a lot with the guys. Hasn’t really affected grades so far, it’s usually aimless internet surfing that does.

Gaming is one of my recreational activities that I space in between papers/homework to keep me sane.

“Rock Band counts as a video game? .__.”

I played over 1000 hours of Battlefield 2 in less than two years when I was in high school. I definitely think RB is a video game.

It doesn’t affect me that much, it’s a good stress reliever.

I do homework during the day, and play at night. I left my xbox 360 and my controllers in my friends room because he has a 36’’ TV. However, I set my xbox so that I need to log into xbox live, so he can’t play online when I’m not around. And, I can’t play 24/7 because the console is in his room! I think this is a great system because it regulates us.

The 2 of us have to be in the same room to play video games. Thus we won’t be playing for hours end.

^that’s a great idea

I’m wondering if there’s a free xbox live gold membership this weekend. I paid $1 for a month of subscription on a special deal offered around christmas. I set my account to cancel subscription after 1 month, but I can still play xbox live…
