Gangsta Rapper...

Hey guys, I don't have good grades, and am expecting a 2200+ on my SAT's (third time). But i make rap music and am about to release an album on iLike, maybe even sell my stuff (i still need a good stage name). Could that be considered an EC that could help me stand out as unique and possibly offset a lower GPA? ignore the fact that a rapper is on CC haha...

LOL @ the title, it’s so out of place…

That’s definitely unique. But what is your GPA? Interesting ECs only help so much.

are you a URM?

Most likely

One word, really?

Why not try to go into the music industry? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with you wanting to go to a good college…but you know…

I know a kid who got into a school known for it’s low admit rate (beyond a certain segment) who was a rapper and in the bottom half of the class.

Because a rapper that actually wants to be an academic scholar is quite rare, yes.

Oh, felt like I should add that his raps were uplifting. I suppose that if you rap about sociopathic behavior, that would be bad.

I have a friend who’s a professional rapper and he went to Stanford. It can be done.

Be unique.

You should send in your rap as a supplement… LOL or write a rap for your essays!! haha

are you URM?
no offense but if i had to guess from your name, id say your indian/Pakistani/etc…

but if you are a URM, with that sat score and your rapping EC (and a decent GPA, of course), id say youre in at most top colleges…

hey if its no trouble, could you maybe post a link to your music page (youtube, myspace, twitter haha).
i wanna see what you got.thanks

Tablo, one of the most famous and popular rapper in SKorea, went to Stanford and graduated in 3 years with Magna Cum Laude

… lol

Just don’t include the rap, that may be offensive.

seriously post a link to your music immediately

thanks, guys. i still need to make a beat for a few more of my songs before i put the links up. i’m kind of budding, as i’ve only made a few songs so far. i’ll release it all on my album. and they’re not exactly uplifting raps… i don’t make women seem like objects, but i do make sure to talk about my three Rolex’s, how much money i have, include drug and alcohol references… etc. haha

My son’s a scholar who wishes he were a rapper.

um…is that all you rap about? no offense, but that seems just a bit shallow.

If you had a rap theme that could really evoke emotional responses from the listeners, such as a few of Eminem’s (Mockingbird, When I’m Gone, etc.) or that are more worldly and mature, then I think an admissions officer would look very favorably upon your EC.

However, if they are a bit more like 50 Cent’s Window Shopper or I Get Money, which is what your “three rolexe’s and drug/alcohol references” point to, an admin officer might not value it at all, or even look negatively upon it.
