If a student decides to take a year off what happens to financial aid? They need to start paying back after x months (how many?) and does that have any effect on when they go back to school if its a year later? Can they still get financial aid then? Would be done with 2 complete years. Unsure on what to major in and really lost, so as a last resort she may decide to take some time off.
Also, this is still considered withdrawing even though the school year is complete? Would grants need to be paid back or no since the entire semester/year was actually completed. Thanks - this is a new thought and we know nothing about how it works.
If your student is considering a year off…she might want to ask for a leave of absence. That way she would not need to reapply to her college should, she want to return after that year.
If she withdraws from the school, she will have to reapply for admission. Have her talk to her academic advisor or the Dean of Students office about a leave of absence.
When she decides to return, she will need to complete the financial aid application forms again for,the year she plans to return…and see what happens.
Yes, if you leave school for a gap or internship not associate with the school, your grace period begins and you may have to start repaying loans. My daughter is on an internship, not registered through her school, and we’ve received the loan repayment documents. She will, I hope, return before the payments kick in (6 month and 9 months)
It sounds like you are confusing grants and loans. They are not the same thing. Grants do not have to be paid back.
