Hey guys,
I am currently a sophomore at my local community college and will be getting my transfer degree spring 2016.
I am debating whether to transfer to a 4 year, or take a gap year. I am not well informed of the pros and cons to a gap year.
The college I want to attend after my transfer has like an 80% acceptance rate, but will my chances go down if a take a year off?
Will I have to start paying my student loans back if a take a year off?
will I still be able to apply for financial aid or loans after my gap year?
Any info, or links would be awesome, thanks!
You need to ask the Transfer Admissions Office if a gap year will make a difference. Sometimes it can - for example if you are borderline for admission and you can do something related to your major during your time off, then that experience might improve your chance of admission.
Yes you will need to start paying back your loans when the grace period expires, but when you go back to school they will go back into deferral until you leave school again.
Yes you can apply for federal financial aid after taking time off. However the rules may be different for state aid or any other private aid you are receiving, so check with the financial aid office at your current CC.
