Gap Year?

My D was accepted to L campus and we all LOVE the school, the location, the program…
She received a generous scholarship, but not enough (same story?!)
We are wondering if Fordham allows students to defer admission for a year (she’ll most likely attend an overseas humanitarian program). This would allow us to get our son through his undergrad and organize the financing for the following year. Does anyone know if they allow this?

You need to address that directly with the Admissions Office and Financial Aid. Appeal the decision immediately.

I dont know the policy on that but some schools allow that and some require a reapplication. Explain your situation clearly. Call them.

I would first contact admissions about the deferral (most schools do allow a one year deferral – I just don’t know anyone who has done it here) and what the process is both on your part and Fordham’s part. I would also ask for some kind of assurance that your D will retain her scholarship for the four years that she attends Fordham. Hope it works out.

Thanks! Spoke with admissions and they do allow both deferral requests and appeal for more assistance. I’m happy to share the specifics they told us if that would be helpful for other people. We need to send a detailed request with specifics of what we need (both for financing for next year as well as the gap year request). We’ll see what happens, the tricky issue is that we have been contacted by another school 3 times with offers for more money, so she is basically assured a free ride there (she’s got merit as well as talent scholarships). We love Fordham and know that both she and the school would benefit from her attendance  , but we are not going to put her or us in crazy debt for an undergrad degree,
Good problems to have

Hi I was wondering if you were successful in getting gap year approval. Like your daughter, my son got a generous scholarship as a commuter student. He thought maybe 2 years at our local community college would not only save us money but save on cost of commuting into city for 4 years. Thanks
