Gates Millenium - 2005-2006

I got 17,000 for 2005-2006! I still am reeling from the excitement! The letter is postmarked the 26th -- and as far as when I submitted everything..I think the 19th by the time it was all said and done.

@_@ Wow! that's absolutely awesome.

i'm still waiting.......and waiting and waiting
with my luck, i prob didnt get it
=(

I wonder how many people applied....

now this conference for gates scholars....do we have to go?

and still waitin.....
another ques....can a student in college (3rd year) apply for the Gates scholarship?

why would you NOT want to go??

i would love to go! but if something by chance comes up, then we are allowed to cancel right?

i should think so. no program is that rigid; i'm sure a few ppl don't attend each for due to conflicting events. dont worry about it.

In the process of renewing the Gates Scholarship, does one still have to qualify for the pell grant to continue recieving the funding. I'm just scared my parents might make extra money rendering me ineligible for the award. I'm currently labeled as low income but how much does your parents have to make to not be considered "low income?" My parents currently make about $35,000 yearly. What if they start making like $45,000 the next year? This still isn't alot of money to support me in college, but I hope i still get Bill Gates money.

Holy crap! Now I'm less worried about myself--they'd have to fill in quite a bit for me, too. Congrats again!

Cody - the $17,000 that you got... what did it cover? Loans, work study, all the money your college refused to pay? Sorry for being too lazy to scroll back and check, but which organization are you under, and what college are you attending?

You hafta be a senior in high school to apply.

Yes, the possibility of ineligibility sucks for me. To be pell eligible, your EFC hasta be 4,500 or less. So... that's not a whole lot of wiggle room. Alas! One year at a time, I guess. This whole money thing really bites, when you think about all the details that go into it. You start worrying about student loans, how you're gonna pay it off, eventually you get into credit card debt, and mortgage rates, and Fico scores... 0-o

Pell eligibility is 3850

Anyone know about a GMS information sheet?? I called today and they said that it was missing from me, but the lady with Gates Millennium emailed me on the 21st and said my packet was complete...anyone know what this sheet is?? I already sent in my transcript, GPA conversion form, acceptance letter, and financial aid packet...what else is there??? Will they tell us AFTER May 1??

mdtracie - i was also asked to submit the information sheet because my college did not list the EFC. The lady informed me that I didn't need to get that in by the deadline...

After you fill out that sheet, forward it to your college to fill out the bottom portion.

but where do u get the sheet?? i didn't even know i needed it, the efc was listed on my financial aid sheet.

gphoenix - the $17,000 - which was really 16935 - equaled the cost of my work study, Parent Loan and my loan. SNC had already awarded me $48,000 (which broke down into 4 years)-- so basically Gates assumed the rest. (30,000+ a year at SNC). (Awesome...I still cant breathe)

skidmarx - after the initial acceptance, you do not still have the qualify for the Pell. Looks to me like its all up to you (the student) to maintain grades, etc.

I dont know why, but Im not being notified new posts are here so I apologize for the delay.

But I did read somewhere of a notification date of May 10....(I know I said the May 1 --but thats what I was told too) SO DONT GIVE UP!!

Can anyone confirm this? Anyone called the Gates office and checked? It unfortunately sounds like you hafta be Pell eligible all the other undergrad years as well... -_-'''

Yeah I can - its in the Gates Scholar Handbook.
" Renewal Scholars do not have to be eligible to receive the Federal Pell Grant."
