Everyone will receive a letter whether you made it to the second round or not. The web site said letters would go out in the early part of may.

GOSHHHHHHH THIS IS ALWAYS MY LUCK!!!! I qualified but I don't qualify for the pell grant by a mere 1K!!!! Should I contact the Scholarship coordinators?

I meant april not may!!!

i am from nyc, and i got it today (monday)......

wait for a few days, and if u dont receive anything, u could prob call them up to make sure

LOL
it is the worst thing in the world...to call...and then they say "no"
that happens to me all the time when i call
=)

I got it too, but I didn't even finish the application. I submitted it with the last 2 essays blank. How many more rounds are there past this one by the way? Oh yeah I'm from Texas...

puzzle....then i guess all u can do is wait. and
if u dont get it, just assume...well u no

no lol its not really the worst thing,
its actually funny cuz ppl never know how to phrase it
"you were not selected"
or
"i dont think so...sorry"
haha
<3 but everyone gets a letter anyway, so unless the stupid ostal service messes up AGAIN, ill be fine

So how many phases are there???

hey guys! i recieved it too! but i called like 5 of my friends at school that also signed up for it.. but they didnt recieve anything.. is this a good sign? and does anyone know if we can carry over other scholarships.. like lets say we recieve this scholarship.. and get other small ones.. can we carry it over to sophomore year? hope so cross fingers

i dont think i qualified for a pell grant : (

i think the efc cutoff is 3850....anyone know how many phases there are to this scholarship?

I heard if you get the letter, that means your a finalist. My friend's sister who also got the scholarship last year said that its likely you'll get the scholarship if you're among the finalists.
it says on the bottom "subsequent to the second phase review of the requested documents, you will be informed if you are selected as a GMS scholar." so i guess this is the last phase. then they'll tell us know..
hopefully this helps!

Good Luck to all! woo hoo! college bound!

mdtracie, what part of texas are you from? my friend is very anxious!

I RECEIVED AM EMAIL STATING THAT I AM A SEMIFINALIST IN THE GMSP COMPETITION..

I did not receive a letter in the mail yet but the email says that it will come soon.........I am so excited...I really need this money to go to college

SEMIFINALISTS....

where do you all plan to go to college?

GMS is for 4 years, btw, so you wouldn't need to carry that much over. (I believe so, I could be on crack lol)

When do you have to have all of your papers mailed in
threepointnineseven?

did everyone get an email (everyone being people who posted that they are finalists)
if so when was it mailed

does getting a letter mean your a finalist? and how can you be a semi-finalist? i havent gotten an email yet, am i even a finalist, i only recieved the letter saying i advance to the next round which im assuming IS the last round.

i don't think one can be a semifinalist since there's only two rounds. Basically, my friend who is a GATES scholar said that rarely do they reject anyone who has made it this far. LIke I said before, this is the round where they just verify the information and figure out how much aid you will get based on your financial aid package from the college of your choice. So if you made it this far, and you got a pell grant, CONGRATS, the next four year will be FREE.

p.s. where is everyone attending?

I have no idea where I'm going, but so far, 3 schools: UC-Berkeley, MIT, and Williams.
