Gates Millenium Scholarship 2011-2012

@dqn217: i feel like i should befriend u hahaha where r u going for college?

@aziangirl
Maybe WSU unless I get this scholarship then bye bye wichita

aziangirl: You welcome. and yea…I’m a huge procrastinator.lol…only reason I finished the application before time is that I already had the info saved on the computer. If not, I’d be starting it sunday night. :p

Just a quick thought here. Those of you who are down here in the South, don’t forget our snow/ice storm that will be here Monday just in time for your power to be knocked out right before you want to push submit.

Just my gentle nudge not to wait till the last minute! ;)

Haha, GA2012MOM - I live in GA and while I hope we don’t have school Monday, I certainly don’t hope that the storm knocks out our power/Internet!

Anyway, does anyone know about how many people get the scholarship?

1,000 people.

^Thank you! 8)

LocoArts: wait, there are about 21000 applicants and 1000 winners? So your telling me I have a better chance at going to Harvard, than winning this scholarship? Lol my confidence just plummeted.

Also where did you hear that the winners are separated by race? Did someone send you a link?

JSea11: thats most likely true. And did you know getting a 34-36 on ACT does not guarantee you to get in? The score is just for “special consideration”. My friend got turned down with a 35! that’s crazy…but away from the random stuff yea, only 3% of us will get that.

and the seperation thing: I found out from past GM scholars. They said that was the breakdown( I found someone in my college Robotics and systems class was a GM scholar, I asked if it was true and she say yea).

do you have to be a senior to apply?

Collegebound247: Yes. You do

Application SUBMITTED lord have mercy

im just wondering does everyone have enough info on accomplishments and leadership to fill out every space provided? does anyone know actually scholars that have won without everything filled out?

and does GMS people ask finalists to provide proof of awards/leadership? or do they just ask for SAR and transcript. i lost my nomination for National Youth Forum although i didnt apply to it. i guess it counts?

Hi everyone, I’m just wondering, which scholarship do you think is more difficult to get, the Gates Millenium or the Jackie Robinson? thanks :)

Zhengmaster: yea all if my community service, leadership, and activities spaces were filled. I actually had do much to put down in each category I didn’t know which ones would look best.

How competitive is the Jackie Robinson?

Hey guys! I’m applying too
It seems like no one at my school is applying, which is weird.
Anyways, I really hope we all get this scholarship.
My top school is Howard University.
I got in; now, I just have to get scholarship money.
I have been working on the Gates scholarship since November.
Two more essays to go, which I will complete tonight.
Best of luck to everyone!

Hey guy. before you submitted the app. did the nominator and recommender have a red headline on top saying “Please ensure that your Nominator has your correct Registration ID.” Because I asked both my nominator and recommender, and they both said they inputted the right ID number.

sandra_ny2011: GMS is more competitive…But it’s also worth more
