Gates Millenium Scholarship 2011-2012

haha no, I wouldn’t write that in explicit words. I meant more as, you could write something that would make them say “We should give this person this scholarship”; something inspiring or meaningful or awe-inspiring. It’s a pretty open-ended prompt, so there’s a lot of ways to approach it (and not just the way I said).

One more essay to go!!

I spoke to some GMS guy over the phone. Not only was he rude and nasty, but he assured me that the website was “perfectly fine”. I have no idea what planet he’s from. How can a website NOT, crash when thousands are accessing it at the same time? I’m not getting errors for nothing.

NYSP2010 - Thanks! Haha! I took most of them to be open-ended and were pretty out of the box with them. Fingers-crossed!

imagine18- You can do it! I did 9,438 words in two days! :stuck_out_tongue: Haha.

Question for a past GMS winner- How do you decide what college your scholarship is going to? Does it have to be the college you put as your first choice when you filled out the application?

I just submitted mine. I don’t think I’m gonna make it. My essays were too short…approximately 600 words each. :/

The only reason I’m decided to do this so late was because last year 4 people from my school became scholars so they are truly inspirations for me. I’m equally worried though.

collegefreak - But it’s quality over quantity! :stuck_out_tongue: You’ll be okay!

is it true that they seperate the number of awards equally among races? or do the best of the best truly get the final scholarship?

how do i contact uncf for gms?

thatelephantt: The program they use to write the application does not allow indent, bold, or italics. Good luck! and Thanks:)

collegefreak34: In 2005 an applicant won a scholarship(which he used to pay his way through the University of Notre Dame) by 150 character essays. Thats 150(letters–including space and punctuations). You will be fine.

borkborkbork: My nominator is just now submitting… 0.0

do you guys think they will look over a couple essays even if the first one is just “average” or will they be more inclined to just toss your essays in the recycle.

this is really important to me because my first question is my shortest (3500 characters) and it is my “weakest” in terms of I spent the least time on it, editing it, and my other essays are really good.

Does anybody know someone who postmarked the rec a day after the deadline?

nooo…and this is downright unfair, but i know someone who had their mailman post mark something a couple days late but changed the date so it was technically on time.

skhaer: They are forced to read EVERYTHING. It’s the only way to ensure a full evaluation of the applicant.

dang the site is down for me.

gagdor: get a family member or close friend to access your account and submit. Hurry!!!

1 hr… dont give up ppl…

I’m really not sure about submitting my application anymore after reading that Pell Grants are usually granted to families with annual incomes up to $50,000. That means I’m not eligible, which means that I am not eligible for GMSP, if I read right? Is this true? :/
