edit:so its basically like I’ll be submitting 7/8 essays.

^You probably do have a chance… I think I once read this post where somebody had several short essays and even skipped one, and he/she still got it. Don’t take my word for it, though.

Nearly everyone has like one essay they think they messed up on.

When do you find out that you’ve been disqualified? I really want to know already.

you can call and see if your application got accepted

its re-assuring to hear that. Kinda want more opinions on the matter. I know my application was gonna be accepted because I sent everything necessary.

I wonder if they disqualify you if your recommender did not fill out the “Please explain” portion of two questions, but fills in the appropriate oval, and then postmarks a few hours after the deadline…

damn, I really should have chosen a better recommender than that sh**y guy. What an irresponsible a*hole. I wrote 8 essays for nothing.

i dont think that you will get disqualified… i think its just weaker then other applications. I mean it seems as if it was all completed.

after we complete the fafsa, do we send the gmsp anything?

Is the nominator form different from the nomination? I got conflicting emails from gms a while back

No, it’s fine actually. you can have the same person fill out your nominator and recommender form. Just as long as the person knows both your academic and volunteer achievements very well.

still waiting on a answer…

I’m so eager to go if I got the scholarship. GMS will be my deciding factor on what college I attend.
I wish the first week of march would hurry !

So guys, we should get into a discussion in the meantime. So which campuses are you guys planning to attend?

My top three choices are Howard University, Xavier University of LA, and Baylor University. I’m still waiting to hear from Howard.

I’ll be attending Barnard. yeahhhh

Me too @ rahmemanel. That’s exciting.

I’m still waiting on Emory but hopefully I’ll end up at Georgetown next year!

It would be nice if someone on this forum is a finalist.
I spoke to a past finalist and from what she told me gates scholars vary a lot. Some had 300 hours of community service. Some had less than 30!

I want to wish everyone good luck for the Gates Millennium Scholarship. :)

I wish to resign my chances or even my finalist position to someone else…my parents are pressuring me so much. Like the traditional asian parents they are, they don’t understand me. They don’t care about my feelings or how their pressure is affecting me. I feel so frustrated.

When I try to show my indifferent attitude, instead of reconciling our parent-child relationship, they give me the silent treatment. i know…it’s sad…they do not understand me. This very moment, I am weeping…Do not know what to do.

Everyday they force me to apply and submit scholarships. I’m trying all that I can, but they they do not care about how I feel. I feel so depressed…

Again, I wish every one the best, and I hope you all get the scholarship because you all deserve it.

-imagine18

Any scholars out there? I heard that scholars can nominate students as their protege? Is that true, and does it help? Thanks :D

So, when will we get any news from the Gates Millenium Scholarship?
