Thanks for calling emoryguy. I actually broke down and called again today (about 15 mins ago) and the guy (very nice gentleman) told me the same thing - no emails. Oh well, I’m going with your response, it makes me feel better! So we will look for an email and mail on or around April 15th. Hopefully I’m still alive by then - all this stress is KILLING ME!! :)

@emory980: So, I just called APISAF and GMS. Both of them said no emails, but packages by the end of the month at the latest. -___- Did you call GMS directly? Just curious since I’d like to know if it’s true or not.

So i called UNCF and he said no emails… he said they send an email about gates scholar ID but that wont be until after packages are sent out like April 20th… so I guess that person didn’t know which email it was I guess. Either way I am hoping we are all SCHOLARS and that those packages come soon! (hopefully overnight delivery, idk didnt ask what kind of delivery). I got waitlisted at all my top 3 school choices (was really crushed) so this would defintiely ease my pain and make my safety affordable since my parents wont let me attend due to financial situations! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE, let’s keep praying!

@Emory980: Dammit, I was hoping for an email. Now I must stalk my mailbox. O, and it’s usually not overnight mail. I know a few Gates scholars, and they told me that it’s usually a big package that just comes in the mail with regular mail. Sorry to hear about your 3 waitlisted, I know the feeling since I was rejected by every Ivy. (But it was expected, so not really crushed.) And more good luck to everyone, although people who waited until the 8th to submit everything are kinda screwed.

Thanks so much! And yea they were top 20 schools so… I mean I thought I would get some rejections and some acceptance but all 3 waitlists… kinda depressing. Lol, but I got rejected at the 2 ivees I applied too (not surprising). Agreed, this scholarship is a blessing I would never turn my stuff in the last minute… And pray for me guys I want to get off the waitlist for at least one of them!

I just said a prayer for you! Was Emory one of the schools you were waitlisted at?

Thank you so much ambitious! And yep Emory, Vandy, and Duke. I’m kinda surprised about Emory I had legacy and Emory was my dream school… I’ll pursue the waitlist for sure for Emory because thats my #1 school plus I have family there and its close to home for me. I was really torn when I wasnt invited to Essence I cried and was upset. The waitlist killed me when I saw it. I put my heart in the app (way more than i did on vandy and duke) but god has a reason. I will find out if Im off the waitlist next month (around may 5th) i heard you got in emory gratz! If you go maybe we will see each other! Hopefully as scholars and as peers

i know a person who got it, and the date she got it was april 19th, and she lives in texas… so giving the people of texas a time period! goodluck to everyone… i basicallly camp next to my mailbox now lmao… jk… but exicted!

Yeah, I did get accepted but I am so lost as to where I wanna go. I’m
Debating between USC and Emory. I like both. I’ve never been to either, so its hard. I was invited to Essence, but my mom wouldn’t let me go.

Go to wherever you feel comfortable/cheapest. Do you live in south carolina? If so you should visit USC before you make your decision. Trust me a campus visit can make or break your decision. And either way your going to a great school man your so lucky. I hope I get off the waitlist

so i was looking at the old gates scholarship thread today and i noticed that all of the people from Alabama got there packet on April 19. So all Alabamians keep a look out for the 19th!!!

^ how does living in south carolina pertain to USC?

person could be talking about University of South Carolina OR University of Southern California. The latter is usually referred to as USC. I’m not sure what the poster meant.

University of Southern California,

Here in GA if somebody says USC, 95/100 people will think you are talking about Univ. South Carolina. I grew up in SoCal and it took me a long time to get used to people referring to the “other” USC.

I walked outside just a min ago, looked up in the sky, and prayed my heart out. This is gonna be the slowest, SLOWEST, 12 days of my life. But i am willing to wait, for the results… i was wondering is someone could comment on my stats.

^ wooooo go indians lol

go indians! approximately 8 more days, people! all we can do now is continue to pray like we never have before and remain positive. Question: are they sending the packages the 15th? or should we start receiving them the 15th? Even though this sounds totally ridiculuous, I’ve been checking my mail everyday the minute i come home from school, as if somehow I’ll know i’m a Gates Scholar! Anyways, I know I’m going to be crying and acting spastic whether I get it or not. sigh well i continue to pray and wish everyone good luck! Patience is a virtue ;)

@indians: I would walk outside, but I’m just too lazy/preoccupied to move. This will be the slowest 12 days. I might be 13 days since my mailman never delivers anything on time. Your results are great. If that’s your unweighted GPA, that’s = D. Mine’s is in the 3.78 range, but my weighted is 6.34~ish. Good extracurriculars (Gates loves that) and congrats on the salutatorian title. Considering that my school only has 50 seniors, I barely tip the top 10%. Good luck, and you’ll probably get it. O, I’m West Indian/Pakistani. =]
@expectopatronum: They are mailed on the 15th.

thanks, tiredyethappy. are all of them mailed on the 15th? also, if i were to not be a scholar, should i still expect something, anything, in the mail around the same time?
