i read this huge thread by last year's class and it seems like they notify finalists in mid-march
then you will have to send in some documetation and they give you the final answer around late-march to mid-april i think

hannanaq, you read the huge thread from last year? Me too!!! Was it titled "Gates Millennium Anyone?" (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=138477&highlight=Gates+Millennium)? I read that entire thread. I can't wait until March!!! :)

You guys read the entire thread?! There were a thousand posts. You guys certain want GMS more than I did.

anyone know if we need to send in our SAR now? I think I remember reading something about that?
Or is that after Semi's are selected?

Hello everyone, I'm a new member here at College Discusssion. Here's my question - I sent in my online application one hour late, but I was still able to access my online application and send it in. Soon afterwards, I recieved a confirmation e-mail: does this mean for certain that my application went through to the database and that it will be considered?

I also read that entire thread and I also read the one 2 years ago. Learned a lot.

I too am interested in the SAR. The application stated you must have your FAFSA completed by February 1st. I was wondering how they have access to the information without permission.

If you have any info on this....please let me know.

Thanks!

It only matters if you pass the first stage.

The organization then asks for your SAR.

Psolo2: I think your application will be considered even if you submitted an hour later, because you DID get the confirmation email from GMS. As long as they sent you that email, you are guaranteed that they DID receive your application. Just make sure that your nominator and recommender did receive their confirmation emails too. :)

Nicolby: Yeah, ManUtd20Ole is right. You ONLY have to complete your FAFSA by the recommended date (Feb. 1st). GMS DOES NOT have access to your FAFSA without your permission.

"GMS candidates must have a Federal Pell Grant as part of their financial aid package for the 2007-2008 academic year in order to be confirmed as a scholar. Eligibility for a Federal Pell grant can only be determined through the submission of a free application for federal student aid (FAFSA). Nominees, therefore, are urged to file a 2007-2008 FAFSA at the earliest convenience."

FAFSA is used by GMS to confirm that you are eligible for Federal Pell Grant. GMS only requests semi-finalists/finalists' FAFSA when they are selected in March, no one else. I am not sure, but I think they request for a copy of your FAFSA/SAR on paper and have you send it in by mail along with other documents.

really? my nominator submitted his form 3 minutes late, i was on the phone with him, and he said he couldnt press the send button. T.T

thanks all.

Hang in there guys, the greatest day of your life awaits you.

I'm already done though.

My EFC doesn't meet the requirement.

Such a shame...

I worked very hard on my application.

I'm sorry to hear that manutd20Ole

My loss is someone's gain :D.

Has anyone recieved correspondence saying if they were selected as a finalist or not? I called GMS today and they said that we would be notified via e-mail.

I haven't heard anything yet. Someone said it will be March before they start to send out notices.

last year, people got finalist notification mid-march, i think the 13th-15th to be exact

A funny thing happened this week, I received an e-mail from the Ventures scholar program asking if I indeed applied for the Gates program. They told me to send back some info so that they may track my status.

The weird thing is that they would not have contacted me unless Gates had contacted them.

Makes me wonder where I am in the process.

Has anybody else had this or a similar experience?? I don't want to get too excited.

Yea, I got an email like that too!!! But don't get your undergarments in a helix, it was nothing but a generic email.
