Gates Millennium Scholarship 2013-2014

I was on this thread when I was applying to boarding school and now I am back. So, I literally have been ready this thread ever since I was selected as a finalist, but I restrained myself to post anything until I become a scholar. Since I currently attend a boarding school in MA, even though I live in NYC, it was hard for me to know where my letter was going to be sent.
I was just told 3 hours ago by my little sister on Facebook that was rejected, and then when I asked to take a picture of the rejection letter so I can read it, she sent me a picture of a letter saying “CONGRATULATION” and I collapsed on the ground. OMGG I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM A GATES MILLENNIUM CLASS OF 2014!!! To bad I do not have the actual envelope in from of me, but I am overjoyed.
I am been deciding between Saint Louis University- Madrid campus (the actually campus is in MO, but they have a Madrid campus where you can spend 4 years there as well. It is like NYU Shanghai campus) And UC Berkeley. I think I will end up at Saint Louis University. There was a scholar last year who was able to use his scholarship to study at NYU- Shanghai campus because it is an American university whose main campus is based in the U.S.
Ahh I wish I had my letter in front of me now!!

@Tivogliobene Congratulations!!! Haha, your sister is funny! :smiley: What’s your ethnicity?

I am an African American I don’t know if I should say from MA where I go to school or from NYC where I live.

@Marie1116 Heyy i am a Native from the Round Valley reservation and i am waiting to hear from Gates. I am considering UC Davis and have met with people from the Native program. They offer a lot of help, have you heard about the STEP program? I got invited to it, have you? If not you should look into it, i have Native contacts from Davis who would be willing to help you. They would also advocate for you to be in the STEP program.

@niecygirl34‌ Yes! I was invited to it, but I haven’t looked into it much. It sounds like an awesome opportunity, yet I am hesitant to give up my last summer at home. Lol

Gates Scholar from Maui, Hawaii!!! :slight_smile:

@kaikai23‌ congrats!

@tjmills96‌ forgot to ask, did you get your letter yet?

@kaikai‌23 Congratulations!!

@Tivogliobene‌ I’m African American too. :smiley: You can say you’re from NY. Everyone is just trying to see what areas have received their letters in order to guage the arrival of their own letters. Haha, we’re not very patient.

Did not receive the scholarship. Hispanic from New Mexico. I was accepted to many great schools but will not be able to attend any of them as I would still have to pay about $30,000 a year even after merit scholarships. This was the third unmet need scholarship I was rejected from after being selected as a finalist.

@Bacapal‌ Have you contacted your college concerning financial aid? Also, have you talked to your high school’s access counselor? They have $5,000 scholarships. Please don’t let this hinder you from achieving your dreams. Keep the faith! :wink:

Gates scholar from Houston !!! I am Asian female. Got my letter yesterday. I also got Jack kent cook, Buick achiever, Comcast and lots of other scholarship.

@ucla4sam‌ Wow! Congratulations! I’m so excited for you!!!

And STILL no letter either way! Come on, now have to wait until Monday’s mail and the official email. Anyone else still hearing no word?

@Marie1116 Yes it does! I think if i decide to go to Davis i will do the step program. It is just deciding where to go that is hard for me.

@Mananausunwajan‌ I’m an Asian Female from San Francisco and I received the mail yesterday around 12 pm

Received my package in the mail this morning. So happy! Native American from NorCal.

Is there any way to have them reconsider? I think I might have been knocked out because my parents own a business, even though the losses are significant.

@marie1116 Congratulations! I think you’re the first Native American we’ve heard of.
