Gaucho Day

Did anyone else there go to Accepted Students Day on Saturday? What were your thoughts on the day overall and the quality of the presenters (and fellow class of 2020 that you met)?

We went to Spring Insight if that is what you mean. We thought it was well-done, helpful, organized- even though everyone had to be brought inside there was still so much to see and do.We went to the REEF and in addition to the actual touch tanks presentation we got to talk with the most helpful Bio students for some great advice. We toured the model room and talked to the Residence and Dining people for more good information. The Honors panel was really good, the library tour was great, we talked to a professor at the Bio majors table too. I loved all the clubs out in the Rec Center- it was like a pre club rush where you could really learn what they are about and most were taking interest list names and emails. I was super impressed by the number of current students standing in the rain, still smiling, willing to help you figure out where you were going.

I went to the Spring Insight as well, it was pretty informative and gave you a nice overview of the school. There’s lots of nice views and scenic pathways around campus. The tour guides were cool and energetic, the students I met were cool, but I didn’t really interact with my class (maybe I should’ve). Overall, I think anyone who visits will enjoy the campus and the school vibe.

The people (not the visitors, the students) were pretty friendly and open but the event wasn’t very well-organized. The rain also spoiled things a bit. Really hated how the dorms weren’t open (the residence halls fair was informative but didn’t give the best picture of what dorm life there is like). Overall the event was so-so. As for the social vibe, I didn’t really get a clear sense of it so I will be visiting the campus again.

@anon6139 I agree. I thought that the whole day was a bit disorganised and the breaks were too long between the activities. Some of the faculty speakers were uninspiring. However, I found the students and tour guides very nice and helpful.

@Anon6139 I was actually okay with not being able to the resident halls, mainly because I plan on living there and wouldn’t want lots of visitors/tourists coming through. They said in an email that we wouldn’t go in order to respect the privacy of the students so I already expected it too.

I was just hoping that there’d be a model dorm room like some of the other colleges.

@anon6139 they had the model set up (2 of them, but they were the same thing) in the UCen- did you see those?

Do you mean the rooms with the bunk beds? They didn’t look like model rooms to me.
