Gay friendly?

I'm a little embarrassed by this, but I don't actually know what "gay friendly" means, and it's one of the questions on the housing questionnaire. Maybe (probably) I'm over-analyzing it, but I can come up with four or five possible translations. Does it just mean what it likely means, which is that it's fine if your roommate is gay?

It means that you would not mind to have a gay roommate, at least that's what my daughter assumed at the time. (You don't need to be gay to be gay-friendly...).

Yes, the new Housing Director will be matching people up with roommates based on people's interests, outlooks and personality. She needs to know if you're comfortable with a gay roommate.

ps. - I hope she does as good a job as Myrt Westphal. There was a long list of people who were interviewed and then they picked her (forget her name). She is Swarthmore class of 2001.

Okay. Thanks to you both! I think she now has her answers ready to all the questions on the housing form. We had some long discussions about some of them... It was fun!

I too hope the new Housing Director does a great job. I would think (and hope) that most kids go into a dormitory hoping to get along with their roommate and hallmates. I suppose it's a fine line between matching people up based on interests, etc. and exposing kids to those with different interests,etc.... D said it was fine if she ended up in a hall with all science majors (she's more of the "humanities type") because there would always be someone around to help her with her science homework. :)
