Gay student life at UCSB

What is life like at UCSB for gay male student who is social, well adjusted and out? Is it a welcoming community in general? I have heard that the campus has a heavy fraternity/sorority feel, if one does fit into that mold is that a problem?

Thanks

I think it is a welcoming community for people who identify with the LGBTQ community! There are lots of large clubs related to this issue and lots of fun events that acknowledge the LGBTQ comm such as pride week, queer weddings, lavender graduations and drag queen shows. UCSB has great gender studies as well. I didn’t feel it was a frat/sorority heavy atmosphere, but you did know lots of people who were in frats/sorority. Whether or not you fit into that mold, I don’t think will be a problem.

I have a lot of friends in the GSA (Gay straight alliance) community and can vouch that it’s a very welcoming school. GSA has a lot of events and even have bigs/littles like in Greek life. Greek life is felt only because those in it tend to make it known, but the vast majority is still unaffiliated with Greek life. It’s all just about finding you’re niche/social scene here whatever that might be!
