Hi, I would love input on something that my son’s GC told me in passing the other day.
She said that there was once a student at DS’s school who was nominated for Danforth, and got a letter from the Danforth people accepting him, but then was rejected from the University itself. I didn’t argue with her, but that sounded really implausible to me. Any thoughts from those in the know?
Well, human error can always happen. I agree this is probably a once in a decade type of mistake if true, but even stranger things have happened at various schools.
I know that it is completely impossible for at least one of the scholarships, based on what the selectors have told me about the process.
No idea on Danforth, but I really really doubt it’s possible. As @fallenchemist said, if it’s true it’s likely just one massive fluke.
@fallenchemist @Johnson181 - thanks! That is basically what I suspected, i.e. unlikely but if possible, exceedingly rare…
Yes, it can happen. Wash U admissions is very unpredictable and fickle, IMO. Also thing can and do slip through the cracks. I’ve seen several of such things happen over 30 years, very few, and usually the result of a skipped step or too cursory a check on making sure these things do not happen.
But I agree if it did happen, it was a fluke and not something to worry about.
