General topics on the great Essays!

<p>I know that Colleges want to see your personality, etc. But how do you do this? The topics are almost never specific, and well, for me at least, picking a good topic is seeming to be a herculean task. How do you do it?</p>

<p>Also, once you get the topic, what should you write? Should it be rather formal, or somewhat rough? </p>

<p>Finally, what kind of timeline are we looking at for the essays? This is assuming regular decision.</p>
