Does anyone here know any genetic research centers where I could intern at...it doesnt matter if it is paid or nott... i just want to work with genetics and get some experience in that field....locations in NJ and NY or D.C. is helpful

wat school do u go to? I think we live in the same area, i am looking for the samething...if that helps. BUMP

Maybe NIH? I think they're near the DC area.

NIH has a main campus in Bethesda, MD, and a few institutes are located in Rockville, MD. They do accept high school students as summer interns, although the program is closed for this summer. I'm not sure if they accept high school interns during the school year, but it's certainly a possibility.

There are also a few biotech companies in the Rockville area, due to Craig Venter and his... whatever his deal is. I'm not sure if they'd take high school interns, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

i go to Passaic County Technical Institute (academy of medical arts) ..what school do u go to premedwannab?
do u guys know how hard it is to get into NIH and what are the requirements? i would love to work there for the school year or summer...

xclusiveazianshawti: i go to the Academies at Englewood (Bergen County) at the Bio-medical Academy. I want to go to NIH too for the 2006 summer, but you have to 16 to go there, and you just have to find a scientist and show interest in their research. My aol screenname is : lasturkstanding

The tri-state area has many different bio-tech companies that focus on genetics research.

Wvernrider123: do u know any specific ones and if so, what are the requirements? thankz

Look at: Progenics Pharmaceuticals, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, etc. The requirements are relatively simple: a half-decent transcript and an expressed interest in genetics research. Though not as prestigious as RSI, I find that bio-tech companies offer better resources for an Intel/Siemens-Westinghouse competition (after all, they got me two publications and a Grand Prize at ISEF).
