Genetics or Biology?

Hello! I just recently got into Iowa State University and I am thinking of going there. I want to be a dentist, however, I am unsure of what to major in. Freshmen year, I was placed into honors biology and I got a C. I dropped to regular and got a B+. Then I got an A and a B in regular Chemistry. I took Physics last year and I did terrible. I got a C first semester and then a C+. I feel like going into Biology will be too much for me because I got a 21 and a 22 for the Science portion of the ACT, but a 24 in math, a 29 in reading, and a 30 in English. I just know I really want to be a dentist and I was wondering whether I should major in Biology or Genetics. What do you think would be easier for someone like me? I mean I got into the Biology program there already, but should I do Genetics instead? I am also really good at English, should I do that instead?! Your opinions would mean a lot to me!!!

To get into Dental school, it does not matter what your major is. All they care about is your GPA and how well you do on the DAT. You will need to take the science courses required to get into dental school so be prepared to study hard.

@ilove2read the science portion of the act is mostly a reading section, it doesn’t really show how good you are at science (just maybe how could you are at putting info in graphs to words). I would say try to do a major that is scientifically based if you want to be a dentist. a pre-med or pre-dentist if they have it, or biology would be good as well. You could honestly do any major to get into dental school- just as long as you get a good score on the DAT (the dental school entrence exam thing).
Another thing, college science level classes are a lot different than high school ones, and you might to better or worse in college classes than you did in high school. try not to base what you’re good at by the grades you got in high school because I guarentee they won’t be anything like that in college (well they could be but you never know).

thank you so much for your help! I have decided to major in Chemistry and then decide to either become a genetics engineer or a dentist! I’m just going to figure it out later
