Hello! so next year my teacher has recommended me to do Geometry and Algebra II next year (10th grade/ sophomore). For other classes so far Im recommended for pre-AP/honors chemistry, honors english, honors modern world history, and honors French III (but i might do an independent study). Im interested in going into biomedical engineering and fields of that nature. My question is how was your experience if you did double up in geo and alg 2? also if I were to do this should I drop honors history (the teacher is supposedly homework heavy at my school)? I do volleyball in the spring, always get my homework done and study; very motivated, and only do club volleyball during the year which shouldnt be an issue. my teacher said Alg 2 helps with the SATs and ACT, and that each class helps the other. Im just concerned because i would only have one free semester for a study hall or elective (probably wouldnt do one because the options are sort of limited in my interests). thankss :))
Many students at my dd’s school doubled up in math in 10th grade so they could reach calculus senior year. Ir you are planning a STEM major, I would go for it.
Take french in school, not independent study.
Many people double up on geometry and algebra 2 so most likely you will be fine. I wouldn’t drop history - I don’t know about your school but that tends to be a graduation requirement. What would be an advantage for doing French as an independent study? Our school doesn’t allow study halls for the most part (only for kids struggling with academics). I’m not sure what your options are for 1 semester classes - personal finance is useful for everyone and a art/music class can be fun.
The double math should be pretty manageable in itself; the only question is what else you’ll have to sacrifice to fit it in. Another option would be to get geometry over with this summer - it’s a class that works pretty well as a summer course. Your proposed non-math classes sound good - seems like it would be a shame to give any of them up - so the summer math could be a good idea if you would otherwise have to let one of those classes go.
I wouldnt give up any classes: i meant just drop down a level of history from honors to advanced college prep. Im an Israeli citizen so I have to go into to IDF after high school before college, so taking a hebrew college course would give me that professional not just spoken language ( it was my first language but american culture says no to foreign languages).
I have to take gym, but a semester of financial literacy is required now, so i would take all my core classes plus Algebra II and gym and finance to get everything out of the way. this is so i have freedom for science electives junior year because that is when most are available: i would have 1 full year block and a semester block free for my hearts desire :-* which is what i want. Though my sophomore year i would have absolutely no room for an elective or study period.
I’m a bit confused so not sure I’m correct. You want to take a Hebrew class instead of French 3 so that it seems more formal than just knowing how to speak Hebrew as a native language? What do you mean American culture says no to foreign languages? Are you in high school in America?
sorry, high school in america, hebrew for actual use in Israel for writing, reading, understanding- formal and not just speaking and listening. I didnt hold on to my hebrew because in America speaking languages that sound like hebrew were frowned upon so english just was it
I’m sorry you feel that way - America is a big country so it depends on where you live. Where I live as long as you can speak English to friends at school no one cares what else you speak. We do have plenty of people who speak Hebrew in the area though many of them opt for religious school over public school.
