Georegetown Summer High School Institutes.. What do you know?

Basically, I was wondering if anyone had personally attended an Institute in high school, or knew something about them. What is it like? Was it primarily Juniors or Sophomores? Are you glad that you participated in the experience? Any experience or advice regarding the program as a whole would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I did the Medical Institute the summer before my sophomore year. The majority of the people there were juniors, but there was definitely a mix of sophomores and juniors. I really loved the program. Specifically in the medical institute we dissected rats and human cadavers, visited the NIH, went to the national history museum and did some cool medical activities. We got to explore the surrounding area around Georgetown and get a feel for what campus life is like. I’m really happy I did the program, 3 years later. I still talk to some of the people that I met there and it’s probably one of the best camps I’ve attended. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! I just have two other questions: If you boarded, what was that like? Also, did you find it easy to make friends?

@cboo3 I boarded, and it was a typical college dorm. They randomly assign you a roommate. The dorms they used were dorms for sophomore students (if I remember correctly) that was on one of the main quads that was right near the dining hall. We had a couple hall activities that our RAs organized for us so that we could get to know each other. We all made brownies together and watched mean girls lmao. It was pretty easy to make friends. Most people came without knowing each other so every one was looking for friends. We went on a couple field trips on charter buses and got really close through that. You’ll also be assigned a ‘home group’ that met frequently and we did activities together, so I met other people outside of my program through that group. I did the Institute 3 years ago, so some things might have changed.

My daughter went to the Law Institute after her sophomore year (I believe). It was a good program, they stayed very busy with projects and field trips (visit to the Supreme Court and other awesome places). They stayed in the dorms and she made some good friends who she still stays in touch with today (they are all in college now).
