George Washington RD 2020

@HappyFace2018 I wrote way too many essays aha it was insane

What do u guys think the acceptance rate will be this year? I like GW but my family
Is kind of turned off by the 43% acceptance rate when u search it on google (although acceptance rate does not mean everything)

@jesr1121 The thing to know is that listed acceptance rates can be very deceptive. When you see an acceptance rate for a college, it’s pretty much always the average or some sort of middle ground between the EA/ED and RD acceptance rate. For instance, the listed acceptance rate for Harvard is around 5-6%. However, this number is derived from an EA/ED acceptance rate of around 10% and a RD acceptance rate of around 2%. Obviously Harvard is an extreme example. But for GW, they let in a lot of people ED, probably 50-60% (I don’t know the exact numbers), and then RD they’ll have a much smaller acceptance rate, probably 30-35%. The 43% listed acceptance rate is a compromise between the two.

In short, don’t be discouraged thinking GW isn’t selective enough.

@jesr1121, seems you may have just disparaged a fair number of people in this thread… Just sayin’ :open_mouth:

I have read almost every single one of the 743 previous posts in this thread. I couldn’t find an answer to this. Does anyone know if GWU makes financial award notifications electronically along with acceptances? Or will that come later via mail? Anyone have any insight into that one?

I don’t see what GW has to gain from releasing decisions when the ivies do. Does it really think it can compete with people who get into top 20 schools?

@screennameinuse From what I’ve heard, we will be able to see financial awards with out decisions.

Hahahah I was just looking back through the admissions Twitter and they replied to someone whose username was “@little_stoner” or something, great idea to communicate with admissions with that Twitter account

That’s funny :)…I seriously wonder when decisions will come out…and yes that 30-35% is disparaging…

I think they are trying to release decisions today because they worked late yesterday

@kaitlynjoy The level of organization that took all while continuing to excel in your school work is more than commendable!

hope its today!

@HappyFace2018 thank you so much!!!

thank you! @anothermuggle

and im sorry if i offended anyone i really didnt mean to. if i didnt think gw was competitive/a great school i wouldnt have applied or even be in this thread nervously checking every hour to see if decisions have been released. really i swear i didnt mean to offend anyone and im sorry if i did! @screennameinuse

They keep posting “by 4/1” but no confirmation as to whether today is still a possibility

acceptance rates hardly mean anything in terms of how good the school is, it’s better to look at stats like percentage of graduates who have a job of their choice/are in grad school 6 months after graduation, and i think gw has a pretty high one

I asked if “by 4/1” technically could include today and they liked it (if it guaranteed wasn’t today they would have said so)!!!

Every single time I look at this thread it makes me feel as if i am a detective working in the FBI. We’re awesome

Indeed you all are awesome!!!

Hi I just have a question and I’m sort of freaking out. Did all of you make portal accounts for GW? After I submitted the common app & writing supplement I got emails confirming that it was submitted successfully, but I never received any emails after that. Normally, a college emails you to create an account for their portal but I got none of that. Is this normal? Or did something get messed up with my application?!
