Well, I originally applied for a fall transfer. After meeting with some admissions folks we all agreed to push my application to Spring 2012 because my recent college course work is very limited. They felt another semester to prove myself would be necessary. So I thought I was totally removed from consideration for fall (and have already accepted at Columbia)…

Still haven’t received mine…Those of you who have received their packets recently what was the postmark date, and type of mailing?

For those who sent their deposits in, have you received confirmation or an email and have you been able to get your NetID?

^nope, not yet! Then again, I just sent mine on Saturday! How long has it been since you sent yours?

@ellomeno Have you got your package yet? Nothing for me yet.

@CSilverm, hopefully we will have classes together! GWU is one of the few schools that truly teaches a holistic approach to the field. Long term, I plan to pursue anthro to the PhD level, so I can become a forensic anthropologist. I’ve wanted to do something with bones ever since I was a little kid. Short term (especially considering how the economy is at the moment), I want to do something along the lines of international relations since I also have a deep interest in other cultures and people in general. Add that to the fact that Ive always had a soft spot for Mediterranean/classical archaeology, and you get why I chose the general anthro route instead of bio anthro. I like it all when it comes to anthro, so I figured I’ll specialize when I get my M.A. I can definitely understand why you’re interested in prehistoric arch. Arch is such an exciting field! Have you picked your classes yet? Im really hoping to get into advanced osteology. What are your plans for your archaeology degree?

@Yankee13 and ellomeno, any word on your packages?

@rubyshadesp3 Nothing here…called last Thursday and they said they would send another one just in case.

finally got my acceptance package!!! took for ****ing ever, but they where already sending me a new one… but yeah

now all i have to do is send my official transcripts etc.

@ellomeno Congrats bout time! When was it postmarked?

@isharmie

I sent mine Saturday too, still haven’t received any sort of word yet. I tried accessing my NETID and Email but nothing.

Hope they get it in time.

@yankee13 JUNE 10th!!

@yankee13 btw considering your username are you from the city?

@ellomeno Well I was born in NY but I live in NC.

Sophomores- Where are you looking to live, like what dorm?

I haven’t received my admissions packet yet with my letter of intent either. I asked for an extension and I now have until June 24th to submit it. I only found out last Wednesday that I was accepted to GW, and I haven’t heard anything from the financial aid department regarding my award letter. I called the financial aid department yesterday about this, and apparently they cannot release my award letter until I submit copies of my parents’ tax return and W2s, in addition to some other forms. Financial aid is on a “first come-first served basis” and so now I’m worried that I won’t receive nearly enough aid to get me through the school year because I am submitting my documentation so late. Is anyone else in the same boat? I wasn’t aware that I needed to submit additional documentation for my financial aid. I mean, I’m sure the admissions packet outlines all of the forms that need to be submitted, etc., but I still have not received this! This is incredibly frustrating!

Also, for those of you who still have not received a NetID, do you know what we’re supposed to do for the housing application? I know the transfer housing application is available on Monday, June 20th, but if we do not yet have a NetID we can’t complete it, right?

@CSilverm

I was in the exact same boat as you, except I was “lucky” enough to call financial aid office early (meaning after everyone else got their financial aid package) to find out I had to submit like 10 forms in order for them to make my financial aid package. If I had never called I don’t know when I would have found out

It’s been a frustrating 2 week with every financial aid officers telling me something different. I JUST got my financial aid package 2 days ago. I ended up having to ask for an extension of the deadline for the deposit to the 24th.

I too was extremely worried about getting less financial aid because it was “late.” But i can say now that it is all say and done, I got a pretty generous financial aid package. Then again I have no idea if I would have gotten more aid if it wasn’t late. I would suggest turning your forms in ASAP and call in everyday.

Good luck!

@Stiftree, how much aid did you receive? I submitted 1 document recently on 6/6 although i had sent my tax return forms n w-2 way back in april. Still no update from the school…

@Stiftree-Whew, that makes me feel a lot more relieved knowing you still received a decent financial aid package after all was said and done. That gives me some hope haha! I faxed over all the forms today, so hopefully they’ll be able to process everything before June 24th. Do you know if our letter of intent must be submitted by the 24th, or is it supposed to be postmarked by the 24th?

@rubyshadesp3-That sounds like a good plan! Forensic anthropology sounds like it would be a really interesting field. I haven’t taken any physical anthropology classes yet, but I think I’d like to eventually. In April, I went on a field school in Menorca, Spain and it was all physical anthropology based. We were workikng on a Roman tomb and a prehistoric cave and discovered a ton of human bones. It was a good experience for me to learn more about physical anthropology because I had so little knowledge about bones, etc. I hope to pursue a career in archaeological conservation. I really want to work in a museum someday, and preservation work has always interested me.

@CSilverm, I spoke to the admissions office today because I sent my deposit last Thursday, but the school has not indicated that they have received it yet. The gentleman who answered said that as long as the deposit is postmarked before the deadline then it is good.

Very cool about the field school. Sounds like it was a lot of fun! Conservation sounds like a rewarding path. I can just imagine all the artifacts you will be dealing with. We’ll definitely have to chat about our classes when we’re at GWU!
